4 Things to Do to Live Longer

A scientist who has studied centenarians for more than 20 years shared four things she does to live a long, healthy life. Stacy Andersen, a behavioral neuroscientist at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, is a codirector of the New England Centenarian Study, which examines the lives of people over 100 who are in good health.

"A large 2023 study found that people in their 40s who switched from an unhealthy diet to a whole-food-rich diet, similar to the Mediterranean diet, could add a decade to their life expectancy."

I haven't clicked on the article.

I'm going to guess that I'm violating 1 of the 4 rules. Only 1.

I was wrong. It's telling you what to do....not what to avoid.

I liked the 4 different colors veg and fruits every day habit to get a variety of benefits.

Right about now, the prospect of longer life has lost a bit of its shine.

So, yeah...whatever.

I'm 74 so I think I can speak intelligently on the subject; the one most important thing to do is stop listening to people who tell you what to do to live longer. Live and enjoy your life. Do not let anyone ruin your day or your life by telling you that you're doing it wrong! If you are alive you're doing it right! I'm not saying that you should be stupid and start eating steak at every meal or start drinking a quart of gin a day but be reasonable in your consumption of foods and drinks; basically do whatever you want in moderation and you'll probably live just as long as if you really want to live. In my experirnce a longer life is not necessarily preferable.

Exercise. Do not drink alcohol. Do not smoke. Have a loving supportive family.

That is at least 20 additional years to your life.

Personally, I have no desire to live as long as possible. That's not the goal.

I want to live healthy just as much as living longer.

I recently caught up with some high school classmates around Christmas because one of us traveled back and nobody had seen for a long time.

Anyway....you start imagining the health challenges some are facing now (I'm 56). Some are quite obvious.....and I suppose many aren't obvious...but they are real.

I don't care to live to 99 or something like that. I want the option to be able to retire or semi-retire at an early enough age so we can really go and enjoy traveling and spending extended time away.

The article's all rubbish, mate. Looka me! 81 and still kicking, and my life has been the opposite of this advice. And a whole lot more fun...

Stress is the number one cause of early signs of aging, imo.

Diet and metabolic conditioning matter, but when cursors are activated from stress nothing else matters.

Practice creativity, patience and observation.

Here's a tip if you want to stay young:
Don't work too hard!

Surely this is not as good as the "don't drink, don't smoke, get exercise" tip.
But it's one I can vouch for!
