"Waterproof" Cybertruck Sinks In 8 Feet of Water

A Tesla Cybertruck took an accidental swim in the Ventura Harbor on Monday, prompting a multi-agency response to carefully retrieve the electric vehicle from the water without sparking a toxic battery fire. Tesla founder Elon Musk tweeted in 2022 that the Cybertruck "will be waterproof enough to serve briefly as a boat, so it can cross rivers, lakes & even seas that aren't too choppy." This truck, however, quickly sank in 8 feet of water, said Carson Shevitz, captain of TowBoatUS Ventura, who helped coordinate the rescue. Ventura Port District Harbor Patrol officers spotted the truck bobbing by the boat launch ramp shortly before 11 a.m. , Shevitz said. The driver told Shevitz that he meant to put the vehicle in drive after launching a Jet Ski but accidentally threw it in reverse, causing it to slide down the ramp and into the water.

Maybe Bride of Dracula Pam Bondi will sic the FBI on this man for hydro-vandalizing a Tesla Cybertruck.

FYI {found in Google}:

How deep of water can a Cybertruck drive through?
approximately 32 in
Wade Mode defaults the vehicle's ride height to Very High and protects Cybertruck for up to approximately 32 in (815 mm) of water, driving at slow speeds (1-3 mph (2-5 km/h)). As water depth changes, reduce your vehicle speed accordingly. Do not disable Wade Mode until your vehicle is fully out of water.

In latest blow to Tesla, regulators recall nearly all Cybertrucks
apnews.com

... U.S. safety regulators on Thursday recalled virtually all Cybertrucks on the road, the eighth recall of the Tesla-made vehicles since deliveries to customers began just over a year ago.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's recall, which covers more than 46,000 Cybertrucks, warned that an exterior panel that runs along the left and right side of the windshield can detach while driving, creating a dangerous road hazard for other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash. ...

@#6

Oops.

Hopefully, that side panel doesn't fall off whilst in 32 inches of water ....

Why do people keep pointing out the stupidity of the "cybertruck" (WTF does that even mean?)

They're s(*&. We all know it. Only douchebags drive them. We all know it. Whenever I see one around town, I always stare to see the face of a dumbf(*& so I can avoid them in any future interactions.

Side note: there are as many Teslas and "Cybertrucks" parked in a nearby abandoned mall parking lot than I see on the roads. Is that $1.4 billion Tesla is "missing" really just them buying their own cars and throwing them into random lots to make business look better than it is?

Poor ol' Dante Colle. Porn actors aren't known for their intelligence. He had to go out of his way to prove it.

Hi Yav. Dante Colle looks like a regular Robert Oppenheimer to me. Say, is that a Darwin Award Dante's holding? pbs.twimg.com

It would be interesting try try one of these things out in actual off road conditions, but I rather doubt anyone ever does. In theory it should work pretty good.

They are so heavy they t seems like they would struggle in wet mud.

Only ~500 lb more than my F-250, although that could make a difference in some situations. Around here, off road is mostly rocks and steep hills and the occasional small river crossing.

In those conditions it should perform well, at least in theory.

I think so. Lots of available ground clearance. Not sure how tough they are, or what the turning radius is like. Not enough range to be much more than a toy.
