Farmers Brace for Trump's Trade War

We just haven't seen anything like this': Facing higher inflation and economic uncertainty, farmers have less cushion to face tariffs than they did during the first Trump administration.

More

Trump's USDA has put thousands of farmers in an untenable limbo, by not honoring their signed contracts. Farmers need the money they planned on and are owed. Last night, Senate Republicans blocked my amendment to protect farmers. It's not acceptable to abandon farmers this way.

FTA:

President Donald Trump spent billions of dollars to bail out farmers when his first-term trade war hurt agricultural exports.

But his new tariffs could be much worse for farmers this time around.

The farm economy has shifted dramatically since 2018. Higher inflation has sent prices for fertilizer, seed and other inputs soaring and increased interest rates for farmers' annual operating loans to as high as 8 percent this year. Prices for major crops like soybeans and corn have plummeted roughly 40 percent since 2022--partly because Trump's first trade war reshaped the global market for soybeans, with Brazil and Argentina emerging as major competitors to the U.S.

And though Trump is starting to explore another bailout, the fund he used to assist farmers the first time is now nearly depleted.

Brace? Kiss your asses goodbye.

Remember, this is simply part of the pain (Trump never warned you about) that is involved in the necessary rebalancing of the economy priorto that Golden Age...

In which none of you will any longer own farms.

Video of Agriculture secretary Brooke Rollins at link. She makes some pretty bold predictions regarding how the tarriffs will bring prosperity to farmers:

TAPPER: You're imposing a 10% on the Heard and MccDonald islands. They have zero human inhabitants. Why are you putting tariffs on islands entirely populated by penguins?

ROLLINS: Whatever. Listen, the people leading this are serious, intentional, patriotic, the smartest I've ever worked with.

People that are leading this aren't qualified to run the soda machine at McDonald's

Ff for Rollins' last comment! How clueless is she?!!

My wife and I sold farmland we owned in 2022. Primarily soybeans, wheat, and corn.

Sadly, the doors to those markets are now slamming shut. I feel for the brothers who bought it. Things are gonna get really tough.

Hey--Russia needs soybeans too, you know. They have a lot of hungry soldiers fighting in Ukraine to protect Russia. Those soldiers have to be fed something. Soybeans! And they can pay for the soybeans with oil! And we can then sell that oil on the world market! That's economics! It Works!

Farmers love tRump.
Tots and pears are all they need.
Like Muslim and Venezuelan Americans. Getting what they voted for is always double plus good.

USDA is withholding loans and grants it already promised to farmers. I can't wait to drive through farm country now. I think I am going to have a giant magnet made for the back of my vehicle laughing at them.
