That looked bad. 6 dead. Didn't look like the rotors were turning when it fell.

It's time for Krasnov Fats to hit the links again.

Looks like the transmission and rotors came off in flight. Not good for a helo.

Didn't "come off in flight" probably severed by the main rotor.

Look up something called "Mast Bumping", I know a couple of R22 pilots, they said this is probably what happened.

I had been watching this live on the local NYC news.

Here's their article ...

Pilot, family of 5 from Spain killed after helicopter crashes into Hudson River
abc7ny.com

... Six people were killed after a tourist helicopter carrying a family from Spain crashed into New York City's Hudson River on Thursday afternoon.

The crash was reported at 3:17 p.m. on the Jersey City side of the Hudson.

Agustin Escobar, a Siemens executive from Barcelona, Spain, his wife Merce Camprubi Montal, and their children, ages 4, 5, and 11, were killed in the crash, law enforcement sources told ABC News.

The pilot, who was 36, was also killed, making a total six people.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the helicopter was operated by New York Helicopters.

The FAA believes the helicopter is a Bell 206 and appears to have taken off from the Downtown Manhattan Heliport at 2:59 p.m. It went up to the George Washington Bridge before turning back south along the Jersey side of the river.

It went off radar at 3:25 p.m.

Video shared with Eyewitness News appeared to show pieces of the helicopter break apart and crash into the water. Officials say the helicopter hit the water inverted, without a tail rotor or a main rotor blade. ...

Sure. The main rotor was severed by the main rotor.

That can't be true. 1Lumper says they didn't come off in flight. He did read about mast bumping on the pilot rumors forum though.

Well, can't complain about a dead CEO.

Unfortunate about the kids though.

NTSB presser says they have fished the chopper out of the water but are still looking for the main rotors and transmission, and the tail rotor.

Horrible tragedy.

Add 6 more to Orange Adolf's body count.

Horrible tragedy.

They have identified the pilot. He doesn't look very white, so it must have been his fault. It's just common sense.

Fairly informative videos of this tragedy on YouTube. Looks like the main and tail rotors completely separated from helicopter mechanicals as the body of the Bell HC itself fell to the river. Very tragic indeed for these tourists and the pilot. Some possible thoughts conveyed that pilot may have attempted to avoid migrating birds with tragic ending.
