160 Dems vote against deporting illegals with DUI's

U.S. Rep. Barry Moore's (R-Enterprise) latest piece of legislation allowing for the deportation of any illegal alien who has been convicted or admitted to the offense of driving while drunk passed the U.S. House of Representatives Thursday. "Today's vote in the House sends a clear message," Moore said. "If you are a guest in this country and you break our laws and put American lives at risk by driving under the influence, there will be consequences." Moore's bill, H.R. 875, The Jeremy and Angel Seay and Sergeant Brandon Mendoza Protect Our Communities from DUIs Act of 2025, passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 209-160.

More

"Today, we consider a simple common-sense bill that says if you're a guest in our country and you drive drunk, you should in fact be deported," he said. "Now, to the average American, passing this bill is a no-brainer. Even in a polarized time, Democrats should be able to join Republicans and unanimously support such reasonable legislation. After all, deporting dangerous criminals is a rational, normal, and coherent step that this House should take."

"you drive drunk, you should in fact be deported"

Drunk driving is drunk driving.
What's the difference if it's an immigrant or a citizen?
When do we start deporting citizens for these heinous crimes?

"After all, deporting dangerous criminals is a rational, normal, and coherent step that this House should take."

If drunk drivers are dangerous criminals, why is the sentencing usually pretty light?

This is a confusing article.

Is the legislation to kick out illegal immigrants, or any immigrant?

Based on reading the facts provided in the article, the legislation is set to kick out any immigrant.

It seems like the author of the article added "illegal aliens" to get deplorable MAGAts frothing at the mouth about democrats who voted against the bill.

(It obviously worked on Gacy.)

Personally. I don't believe immigrants who are in America as guests, legally, should be deported for a DUI. They should face the same consequences all people in America do - fines, drunk tank, loss of driver's licenses ...

For context, being an undocumented immigrant is generally a civil violation of immigration law, not a criminal offense like trespassing or petty theft. Most undocumented immigrants are not criminals simply because of their status. The main legal consequence is the possibility of removal (deportation), not a prison sentence. Conflating undocumented presence with criminality is inaccurate and misleading.

So although undocumented immigrants are here, it doesn't mean they are here illegally in the sense of committing a crime; being undocumented is generally a civil violation of immigration law, not a criminal offense. Many entered legally and later lost status, and their presence does not make them criminals' under U.S. law.

Maybe we should deport everyone that's had a DUI IN TRUMP'S "ADMINISTRATION".

In many states, a first time DUI with no aggravating factors or other criminal history doesn't even lead to jail time, just probation.

I guess those dems want to wait until the illegals drunkenly, hit and kill, innocent US citizens before, maybe, or not, they want to take action.

Just a reminder: the ILLEGAL ALIENS do not belong here - PERIOD!

If they don't belong here, remind us why you support sending them to concentration camps in the Florida Everglades.

"and their presence does not make them criminals' under U.S. law."

WTF? Is there some kind of apostrophe virus going around?

Define light?

In CA you can steal $980 dollars an its just a misdemeanor (ticket). Is it lighter than that?

I think of DUI similar to those that own guns, sure most of the time they are peaceful, but if they aren't alot of people will die.

Damned thin reason to uproot some guy and his family's life.
This is all about white power advocates taking over the government, trying to renegotiate the Civil War.
Just cannot accept that nonwhite people are every bit the Human Beings they are.

Misleading headline. The bill in question isn't focused on undocumented immigrants. It applies to any "alien" which according to US law means any non-citizen.
This gives a free pass to any corrupt nation to block immigration of their people to the US. Maybe you are political dissident who assisted the US in Afghanistan and received asylum. Under this law if the Taliban decides they want you returned then they just try you in absentia for drunk driving and notify the US of your crime.
