Trump, Pfizer reach agreement to lower drug prices

President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced an agreement with Pfizer to voluntarily sell its medications for less, as his administration pushes to link U.S. drug prices to cheaper ones abroad. Pfizer has agreed to take measures to reduce U.S. drug prices, including selling its existing drugs to Medicaid patients at the lowest price offered in other developed nations, or what Trump calls the most-favored-nation price, according to the president. Pfizer will also guarantee the same "most-favored-nation" pricing on its new drugs for Medicare, Medicaid and commercial payers.

If he can do this with all drug companies, then he deserves credit for this. Right now, it just looks like talk and bluster about proposed "measures" which may or may not materialize. Of course, the other part of the problem is the prices will still be marked up outrageously by middlemen and service providers.

Details, please.

What, specifically, was agreed to?

What, specifically, was agreed to?

Good question. "voluntarily sell its medications for less".

Or else what?

Well garsh...

Biden issues executive order lowering drug prices
Trump rescinds it
Drug prices shoot up
Trump asks one drug company to lower the prices of some of its drugs at its own discretion
Company says it will do that *wink wink nudge nudge*

This similar to Trump's drug pricing policy from his first term. Biden's autopen recinded it on his first day.

"Pfizer has agreed to take measures to reduce U.S. drug prices, including selling its existing drugs to Medicaid patients at the lowest price offered in other developed nations"

Pfizer's biggest selling drug is Eliquis. Outside of the United States, this drug has a generic equivalent.

So Pfizer selling their #1 profit generator at the inflated Pfizer price that nobody outside the Untied States pays, it isn't really the great deal you want it to be. It's a face-saving deal for Trump that won't move the needle on drug prices for most Americans.
