Teacher Fought Grizzly Bear to Protect Students

Two people are in critical condition and multiple others have been injured after a reported grizzly bear attacked a group of students and teachers who were out walking in Canada earlier this week.

More

Grizzly attack on 11 kids & teachers in BC. "one teacher jumped in front of the bear to allow the children to get away ... he jabbed the bear's eyes with his fingers and that's how he was able to ... how the bear just left him." "That teacher was later airlifted from the scene." Teachers are heroes.

if I filed the site off my 12 gauge it'd hurt less when the bear shoved it up my ass.

Yeah, they say the same thing about handguns, which actually have sights.

Math wise, the .454 Casull has a muzzle energy of around 2,000 foot pounds. A 3.5" 12 gauge slug has 4,000+.

I packed the most powerful weapon I had, a .38 Ruger, just to go backpacking/camping in the deep woods of Big South Fork, on the Kentucky-Tennessee line, years ago. And we only had black bears to worry about. Grizzlies are a lot more dangerous.

I still maintain that Heinz or A-1 works best on a grizzly.

Their meat is way heavy on the fat side and *ahem* grizzly side, so something, ANYTHING, to cut the gamey taste is a positive.

Especially important is that you can tenderize it along the way.

Very important.

#20 Reference: One Second After

A post-apocalyptic thriller of the after effects in the United States after a terrifying terrorist attack using electromagnetic pulse weapons.

In a small North Carolina town, one man struggles to save his family after America loses a war that will send it back to the Dark Ages.

Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based on a real weapon"the electromagnetic pulse (EMP)"which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States, literally within one second.

In the tradition of On the Beach, Fail Safe, and Testament, this book, set in a typical American town, is a dire warning of what might be our future and our end.

Sounded familiar...

"Punching holes in the meat won't save you."

You'd need to punch a hold thought the skull, and that's assuming you have a chance to aim.

There are stories of rounds just bouncing off.

Brain shots work too if you can manage it. We've had 3 bad maulings around here in the last few years. All the bears were shot and died, but not before beating the shooters up pretty bad.

People should just stay home. Nobody would be hurt if they just stayed away from violent opponents and remain in their locked houses. It is always best to leave anarchists to roam freely.

They say the teachers used bear spray, but it didn't work. I say kudo's for the teacher who was horribly mauled defending the kids. I hope he gets better.

But, if I lived in that type of country, I would have a weapon on me AT ALL TIMES. At least a .45 or bigger rifle.

Am I off here? Why be walking around with vulnerable kids, in an area where there are many of our natural predators who are known to feed on humans?

Plus, I've also heard bear spray only works on black bears and not on grizzly's...

Dude, I have a buddy that was mauled by a female grizzly in Montana and lived. He dropped his weapon and went for his spray as It traveled fifty yards and hit him before his weapon hit the ground. I can tell you for a fact that bear spray does work on grizzlies unless it is windy or the bear is pissed off for some reason like this female was protecting her cubs. I lived in Montana and worked in Yellowstone and can tell you if you shoot a grizzly and do not kill it you are toast and most people will not be quick enough or have enough skill to hit the target when a bear charges you. They can also climb a tree fifty feet by the time you ran ten yards.

@#30 ... Go ---- yourself Hans ...

Wow.

So tough.

imo, your current alias' #30 comment only goes to prove the point of the comment it is responding to.

So sad.

@#31 ... Does Hans know what penultimate means? ...

Does your current trolling alias know?

Or is it the usual projection by MAGA of their ignorance upon others?

#16 | Posted by LampLighter at 2025-11-24 01:13 AM

@#1 ... For those of you who live in Canada and Grizzly areas,

Is it smart to have a "nature walk" during a time when bears are looking for their last meal before hibernation? With kids? I understand they live there and deal with bears all the time, but to not be armed? ...

Bears here in Connecticut are roaming.

For example ...

Black bears set a new record for home entries in CT (April 2025)
www.wshu.org

So, having a "nature walk" may not be the big issue to resolve.

And, regarding being armed ...

CT man who shot and killed bear is confused by his arrest -- and so are state lawmakers (April 2025)

And if I may be so bold to state ...

Major kudos to the teachers who risked their lives to protect their students.

That takes balls. Good job Teacher. But I think they should of at least had a high caliber handgun.

You would have thrown a kid you found distasteful in front of you.

A .454 has about the same muzzle energy as a .30-30 Winchester. I wouldn't try a .30-30 on a grizzly.

#6 | Posted by REDIAL

With none of the recoil control.

I've heard of but can't verify or support guides switching to 10mm semi-autos.

Is it really that hard carrying a larger caliber lever gun?

Second to last tough guy? Sounds about right for Boaz. Always a tough guy as long as someone else is standing in front of him.

I tried to walk from the Town of McKenzie back to the construction camp one night 30 years ago the RCMP locked me up for my own safety due to my ignorance of the danger I was putting myself in.The camp dump and Kitchen lure all the bears to the area.
