This short-term bill agreement really just puts a Band-Aid on an issue that was supposed to be resolved last year.

... The Senate has passed a short-term funding bill by a vote of 77-13 to prevent a partial government shutdown Friday night.

The bill now goes to President Joe Biden's desk. The White House tells Scripps News that he will sign it, averting a possible partial shutdown until at least March 8, with a full government shutdown possible on March 22 if lawmakers fail to pass additional funding bills.

In a statement on Thursday, President Biden approved of the short-term problem-solving by Congress, but underlined the need for a permanent solution.

"In the days ahead, Congress must do its job and pass full-year funding bills that deliver for the American people," President Biden wrote. "And House Republicans must act on the bipartisan National Security Supplemental, which already passed the Senate with overwhelming bipartisan support and would pass the House if it was brought to a vote."

The news comes hours after the House of Representatives voted 320-99 in favor of the bill. ...

My God. I need to sit down. The miracle of a last minute funding deal to avoid a government shutdown?

This is unprecedented. No one could have imagined this. It's truly beyond the scope of human understanding. Praise be!

Is there any hope it may happen again before March 8? Or March 22? Any hope at all?

The GOPers in the House seem to think that the federal government should be funded piecemeal.

Has anybody taken a look at what government agencies have been left out of this latest short term funding?

...what government agencies have been left out of this latest short term funding?

I found this tidbit:

Under the deal, the departments of Agriculture, Energy, Housing and Urban Development, Transportation and Veterans Affairs, as well as a handful of related agencies, would have their funding extended in a stopgap bill through March 8. The departments of Interior, Commerce and Justice, as well as the Environmental Protection Agency and a few other agencies, would keep their current March 8 deadlines.
For what it's worth.

Thanks, REDIAL. That was useful.

I was thinking specifically about their stated vow to defund the FBI.

I guess we'll now see Matt Gaetz and his horde of nutcases out for Mike Johnson's head. After all, he had the temerity to think that his job was to legislate while taking the welfare of the nation and its citizens into consideration.

Note that Gaetz has been bragging as of late as to how many 'notches' he's carved these past few months, starting with Kevin McCarthy and most recently claiming responsibility for getting Ronna (Romney) McDaniel removed as the RNC chair as well as helping to force Mitch McConnell to step down from his Senate leadership position, all in the name of helping Donald Trump solidify his hold on the Republican party.

Wow. Feckless GOPers, frantically waiving their hands about the 'border crisis', while focused more on their next break from inaction to go home and conduct fund-raising. From Johnson on down the GOP appears to be hopeful that Americans will just forget about Ukraine, will confuse the week to week extension of an omnibus spending bill with fiscal restraint, and that their badgering and harassment of Hunter Biden will come off as leadership and oversight. Just feckless...
