Adidas Bans Fans from Adding '44' to German Team Soccer Shirt
The "SS" in that style of font is a Nazi symbol for the "Schutzstaffel," or "protection squads."

Canceling Hank Aaron. That's a shame.
There's nothing wrong with 44 in Hitlerian circles, is there? They have some other magic numbers, and unless it's one of them, this seems like a font issue and the misguided judgment of some clueless designer.
A little closer to home, when my millennial son was in 8th grade, an art assignment was to draw something in the style of a modern artist. One kid in his class drew the Campbell's soup can, and the two s's were drawn much like these 44s. I brought it up to the art teacher who played it off as boys being boys ...
... except the following year, the same kid burned a flag with obvious Jewish symbolism.
When I saw the white supremacists' parade in Charlottesville, I swear I could see this kid's face on every one of those pieces of trash.

That's a really unfortunate font choice.

When will this anti-Nazi persecution end?!
It's been like, 10 or 15 years, people. Get over it already!

I certainly hope that was an attempt at humor.

In today's world, there's really no telling, is there?
