The US Justice Department on Tuesday notified Boeing that it breached terms of its 2021 deferred prosecution agreement in which the company avoided criminal charges for two fatal 737 Max crashes.

I would make a Boeing joke but I'm afraid it will fall apart.

Joke shamelessly stolen from here.

OK.

Boeing jokes aside.

I fed into my search engine of choice the following, "boeing, profit over safety"

Results were surprising in the breadth. I was surprised.

Boeing was once known for safety and engineering. But critics say an emphasis on profits changed that (January 2024)

Curious comparison, perhaps worthy of further discussion...

... Boeing has been under more heat recently for its safety issues after a door flew off one of its 737 MAX planes shortly after it took off. I emphasize "more" since this isn't Boeing's first safety issue. The $120 billion company has a rich history of late for putting profits over safety.

All of this Boeing "profit over safety" talk had me thinking ...

n this article, I'll quickly recap Boeing's safety fiascos, touch on the corporatization of healthcare, and then link the two together to show profit over safety is a dangerous, deadly recipe. ...

Whoa.

OK, maybe another whole thread. ....

But wow.

It would be interesting to compare Boeing's culture differences between their commercial airliner division as opposed to their USAF defence contractor/NASA space program iterations.

Whoa, looking at Boeing's apparent "profit uber alles" with regard to the government contracts that Boeing has?

Prosecuted? You mean fined that they'll write off as a business expense.

Unless people in charge do real time in prison, the corrupt corporate culture will continue.

Boeing is proof that penalties alone don't work.

This all started happening with the McDonnell Douglas Take over. I forget who said it but it went something like McDonnell Douglas convinced them to let Boeing take them over with their own money. Boeing up until this point was run by the engineers. They put safety and quality first. McDonnell was run by the accounting department. Part of why they were in the position for Boeing to take them over I am sure... Anyhow, the McDonnell accounting department became the defacto group in control at Boeing within a relatively short time and since then Boeing has been making bad decision after decision. It has all led to this over about 20 years.

I talked to my now deceased uncle about it back then. He was high up in Boeing engineering and essentially said it was why he retired. He had no intentions of doing so but didn't wanted to be associated with the new products in development.
