New legislation tucked within the state bonding package passed last week will allow Connecticut to become the latest state where police can utilize new technology capable of identifying conspicuously noisy cars -- and send tickets to their owners.

More from the article...

... Pushed by state Rep. Bobby Gibson, D-Bloomfield, the proposal is a reaction to what he described as the increase in cars with deafening exhaust pipes and blaring stereos in parts of his district. Across Connecticut, reports of excessive noise from cars have become commonplace, and police say they've struggled to crack down on the perpetrators.

In particular, Gibson said the issue was brought to his attention by a constituent ... who complained of the "aggressive roar" caused by cars with after-market mufflers driving around her North Bloomfield neighborhood. ...

There are cameras at intersections that record and generate tickets for people that run the stop lights. There are cameras set up to record and generate tickets for people that drive too fast through school or construction zones. Camera-generated tickets for cars that are too noisy seems a logical extension (how to you determine which car in the pack is the loud one?). I am surprised we don't have speed cameras to control speeders like you can see in various countries overseas.

I do have issues with all that, I am forced to wonder if they would stand up to a SCOTUS challenge honestly.

Just to illustrate... My friend lived in Germany with his wife a couple years ago and received a couple of camera speeding tickets his wife actually earned for example. And they are STRICT on their speeding.

Might help if they upped road patrols. They have become virtually non-existent in my state other than State Police - especially since COVID/BLM but even long before that. Seems similar in other states I have been in.

camera speeding tickets

They have those in Canada too. Owner gets the fine but no points.

Loud exhaust is a social issue caused mostly by MAGA men who are impotent they seem to believe that a loud enough exhaust roar will reignite their virility. When I encounter them I just shake my head and wonder if they realise how obvious it is they are just desperate for attention.
The Legislature passes a law against loud exhaust and music but our police don't enforce it.

This whole "problem" was caused by the Republicans eliminating the yearly state required vehicle inspections which were paid for by fees paid at the time of inspections. They inspected lights, brakes. windshields, exhaust systems including catalytic converters. , very quietly, the inspecion stations were closed so now there are unsafe vehicles operating all over the state spewing smoke and loud noise all over the place; sort like a climate scientist's worst nightmare which is the goal of our science denying governor who is owned by "Big Oil."

It really doesn't matter as long as they can rake in the money until it gets challenged.

Presebt Suprene Court you are ptobably right but what would they use to prevent the states from rgulating noise levels? Is loud exhaust a Freedom of speech issue? Exhaust does, I guess, express a political message; it clesrly says "I am MAGAt, most assh***es are!

oh my freaking lord.....

have you ever heard a 'low rider" for instance ?

do you know the driver most likely won't have a maga hat on ?

--and why not use it to keep the goddamn blasting of musical abortions down....

this isn't about keeping the Conn countryside free of noise pollution....it's about the fact that

EV's are quiet....and gas cars aren't.

and why do you think that is ms. racist bigot ?

"loud music"....just guessing that this 'loud music" you're talking about isn't

from the local repeat of the New York Philharmonic....so why should a cop stop a 'brother' for

having his jam up high ?....and then lose his job over it....

plus...I didn't realize that Connecticut had such a large maga population.

there might be hope yet...if there is .
