US congressional leaders have agreed to a short-term funding deal in a move that averts a damaging pre-election government shutdown and also amounts to a snub for Donald Trump.

"The prospect of a shutdown at the expiration of the current government funding on 30 September had been looming after Republicans insisted on tying future funding to legislation that would require voters to show proof of US citizenship " known as the Save Act and backed by Trump but opposed by Democrats.

After weeks of backroom maneuvering, the Republican House speaker, Mike Johnson, announced a compromise that provides funding for another three months while decoupling it from the Save Act.

Any other path would have been "political malpractice", he added."

"Malpractice" describes Trump's Presidency and his candidacy now, including his demands to shut down the Gov.

If Mikey had found his ------ sooner and not killed the Border Bill for Trump, places like Springfield wouldn't be suffering Trump's rape attempts on their cities and peoples.

@#1 ... If Mikey had found his ------ sooner and not killed the Border Bill for Trump ...

It wasn't just Spkr Johnson who backed down on the GOP-written and promoted border security bill.

It was pretty much all of the GOP in both houses of Congress that followed fmr Pres Trump's orders not to help solve the border security problem.

I'd proffer the only reason the GOP in the House went against fmr Pres Trump's wishes on this one was due to the fact they know the GOP would be blamed for a government shutdown (due to their control of the House).

A shutdown this close to Election Day would not be A Good Thing for the Republicans on the ballot.

I hope someone adds Trump's elaborate, dyed comb-over ... Flying catsup would be amusing too

Every time Trump tries to harm the nation kust to guve Trump talking points to attack Harris for not preventing a crises he cauaes his chances of winning go down. He has sold his personna as a tough guy but if even Republicans are igboring him his Personna is rapidly being seen more that of a crazy old man losing his cognitive faculties and that is the worst thing that can happen to a candidate; people are laughing at him! He is already a cartoon character and it will get worse!

Yeah, but it seems that fmr Pres Trump is more of a wimp than a tough guy.

VP Harris showed that during the debate.
