Trump often mixed declarative statements with caveats, at one point cautioning "things do change."

... Trump said he can't guarantee that his promised tariffs on key U.S. foreign trade partners won't raise prices for American consumers ...

Yet, I remain to be convinced that he would not try to blame such an increase in prices upon Pres Biden.

Wasn't Mexico gong to pay for the tariffs? I mean, once they've finished plunking down for La Barrera del Pinche Gringo Naranjo.

They'll go up.

And he'll dangle sparkly things in front of the morons, and they'll forget all about how pissed off they were about high prices ("inflation" in their words).

The next four years are going to be a Masterclass in gaslighting and cognitive dissonance.

October Dotard: China will pay these tariffs, you won't.

December Dotard: Get ready to open those wallets. Billionaires need another yacht.

The bankruptcy-prone orange pedo is going to do to the economy what he did to Herman Cain.

@#3 ... Wasn't Mexico gong to pay for the tariffs? ...

Yeah, that's the huge issue wth Pres-elect Trump and his ~beautiful~ tariffs.

Donald Trump calls tariff the most beautiful word,' threatens up to 2,000% tariff to block Mexican car imports (November 2024)
finance.yahoo.com

... Former President Donald Trump has long been an advocate of tariffs, having implemented several during his time in the Oval Office. If elected again, he's made it clear that tariffs will remain a key part of his economic strategy -- this time, with even steeper rates.

Speaking at the Economic Club of Chicago, Trump expressed his continued enthusiasm for tariffs, calling it "the most beautiful word in the dictionary" and even joking, "It needs a public relations firm." His remark drew applause from the audience. ...

OK, taking a step back from Pres-elect Trump's rhetoric on tariffs, my current view is ...

Pres-elect Trump is transactional person, there's no strategy involved. Every decision is along the lines of, ~how does this benefit me now?~

OK, going back to tariffs, the high tariffs Pres-elect Trump seems to be proposing are little more than an opening volley.

He is saying, not only to those countries involved, but also to the companies and corporations dependent upon those countries (because of the greed of their wealthy shareholders to maximize profits)...

What are you going to do for me? If I like what you are doing for me, then I will lower the tariffs on the imported goods (i.e., exempt those goods from the tariffs) you rely upon.

In my view, these gross tariffs proclamations of Pres-elect Trump are just the opening salvo for him to ge companies and corporations to step in line and become MAGAT.

Belly - Feed The Tree (2002)
www.youtube.com

Lyrics excerpt...

genius.com

...
This old man I've talked about
Broke his own heart, poured it in the ground
Big red tree grew up and out
Throws up its leaves, spins round and round

...

[Verse 2]
This little squirrel I used to be
Slammed her bike down the stairs
They put silver where her teeth had been
Baby silver tooth, she grins and grins

...

[Verse 3]
This old man I used to be
Spins around, around, around the tree
Silver baby, come to me
I'll only hurt you in my dreams

[Chorus]
I know all this and
I know all this and
I know all this and more

So take your hat off, boy, when you're talkin' to me
And be there when I feed the tree

Take your hat off when you're talkin' to me
And be there when I feed the tree
...

If the idea is to bring factories back to the US, why not just stop incentivizing businesses to off shore those factories? Give incentives to businesses that bring those factories back.
