As the Trump administration moves to dismantle the U.S. Agency for International Development, false and misleading information is being pushed on social media to support the change, much of it spread by the administration and Elon Musk. The posts raise questions about funding for certain projects and organizations, often claiming without evidence that the money was used inappropriately.

People who are emotionally invested in believing lies are the stupidest people of all.

"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State."

It seems so typical for MAGA --- using lies to justify their actions and goals, because the truth runs counter to their efforts.

I've seen some of these on my Facebook friends' pages. I would call them out, except I don't think they even care if they're spreading misinformation. It's the idea and 'feeling' of it that counts. Meanwhile, I have other friends and relatives doing the same thing, mindlessly reposting anti-Trump stuff without any critical thought. It seems critical thinking is dead, or least hibernating, across the board these days.
