Working with the Trump administration, the data company could be used to target the president's opponents

In JRR Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, a "palantr" is a seeing stone that can be used to distort truth and present selective visions of reality. During the War of the Ring, a palantr falls under the control of Sauron, who uses it to manipulate and deceive.

Palantir Technologies bears a striking similarity. It sells an AI-based platform that allows its users " among them, military and law enforcement agencies " to analyze personal data, including social media profiles, personal information and physical characteristics. These are used to identify and surveil individuals.

"In March, Trump signed an executive order requiring all agencies and departments of the federal government to share data on Americans. To get the job done, Trump chose Palantir Technologies.

According to New York Times reporting, Palantir's software may now be used to combine data gleaned from the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Defense, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Social Security Administration and the Internal Revenue Service.

Meanwhile, the administration wants access to citizens' and others' bank account numbers and medical claims."

imo, Mr Thiel, who apparently gave us VP Vance, has major internal issues he need take a step back and try to resolve.

Why do I hold that opinion? Well, his possible internal angst seems to be portrayed upon the US political system.

Case in point: VP Vance.

So, if I may be so bold to suggest to Mr Thiel, look inward, and fix yourself, before you try to fix the Country.

So, Dr Reich is championing the obvious with this Op-Ed piece about nefarious Palantir, maybe even putting a few bucks in his pocket along the way.

In 2022, Dr. Reich wrote an alarmist Op-Ed blasting AIPAC:

AIPAC is on the way to becoming a Republican front group. Much of AIPAC's trove is coming from Republican donors. In May, Republican billionaires Paul Singer and Bernie Marcus donated $1 million each to AIPAC's super PAC. Marcus famously gave $7 million to President Trump's campaign in 2016. So far in this election cycle, AIPAC has endorsed over 100 Republican candidates who refused to certify the 2020 election results.

What to do about this?

First, Democrats must stop allowing AIPAC to be a Democratic kingmaker. The Democratic leadership in Congress must openly criticize AIPAC's role in Democratic primaries. Democratic candidates should cease taking money from AIPAC in primaries and condemn candidates who do.

Do you think Andrew Cuomo, Kirsten Gillibrand, or Chuck Schumer got the memo?

Note that Dr Reich did not criticize AIPAC when President Joe Biden kept allowing arms shipments to Israel throughout the entirety of 2024 and the Gaza genocide. Nor did Robert Reich mention the Gaza genocide as a potential reason for Harris/Walz losing in 2024 when 6,265,888 antiwar voters stayed home in disgust on 5 Nov. In a YouTube podcast, Dr. Reich blamed poor messaging for the Democratic loss in 2024.

I'll say it's poor messaging. Joe Biden and the Democrats allowing Israel to drop munitions on Palestinians day in and day out certainly is poor messaging. Now we get to hear from Dr Reich yet again.
