"House Bill 557 would prevent local governments in Idaho from having or enforcing anti-discrimination policies that go beyond state law.
Rep. Bruce Skaug (R-Nampa) sponsored the bill which was written by the Idaho Family Policy Center, a conservative Christian lobbying group. Skaug bleated that local antidiscrimination policies "are often weaponized against different businesses and people."
Nikson Mathews, who is transgender, told the committee that the issue is more than just about cake orders or weddings.
"What we are talking about is people having the right to have a home, to have a home for themselves and for their families," Mathews said. "We are talking about the right for people to have a job in order to make a living for themselves and their families."
In the coming days or weeks, the bill could go up for vote in the House, before it would advance to the Senate.
Only one Republican opposed the bill, arguing the state shouldn't interfere with local government.
~snip~
Previously, Rep. Bruce Skaug proposed a bill that would impose a life sentence on parents who "seek out gender-affirming health care for their transgender child." Last year this nefarious Colonel Saunders doppelganger also introduced legislation bringing back the firing squad for death row inmates, making Idaho the only state where firing squads are the primary method of legally murdering convicts.
This week Republican faux Christian Bruce Skaug is hereby nominated as the World's Worst Person. Blech!
