...Why it matters: After running " and winning " on a promise to curb inflation, Trump's trade war threatens to raise prices for everything from food and clothes to cars and computers.

- - - Some estimates suggest just Tuesday's tariffs alone could cost the average U.S. household $830 a year " and that's before you factor in the cost of anticipated retaliatory tariffs from Canada, China and Mexico.

- - - Already, the impacts are escalating -- the map above, for example, was based on a 10% China tariff, which has now been raised to 20%. ...

Some excellent graphics in the article, including one that shows a possible state-by-state map of the possible effect of the tariffs.

The King's actions in recent weeks will cause a recession later this year. Why? Individuals and firms are suddenly very hesitant to spend and invest, because of the tremendous amount of uncertainty which has been dropped into the minds of participants in the US economy. Those who feel less certain about future prospects usually react by putting off expenditures, hiring and business investment. All those laid off federal workers may find it harder to get jobs, not because of skills but because those would would otherwise hire have much less confidence in the future. Those who would buy a truck, a machine tool, a software package or plane tickets for business travel start to think the same way. And down we go. Thanks, Dotard...

Pres Trump has stated that his tariffs against our allies are because of the fentanyl drugs they seem to allow to enter our borders unchecked.

Well, if Pres Trump seemed to actually care about the drug problem here in the States, I would applaud him.

But I have to ask, if Pres trump is so concerned about a drug problem, then why did he do this?

Trump pardons Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht for online drug scheme (January 2025)

... U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday pardoned Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht, who was sentenced to life in prison for running an underground online marketplace where drug dealers and others conducted more than $200 million in illicit trade using bitcoin.

The Republican president made good on a campaign pledge to free Ulbricht, 40, who was arrested in 2013 and sentenced in 2015 in what became a landmark U.S. prosecution launched only a few years after the emergence of the popular cryptocurrency.

"The scum that worked to convict him were some of the same lunatics who were involved in the modern day weaponization of government against me," Trump said in a post on his social media platform Truth Social. ...

Yes, not one single mention of Trump's plan to counteract the tariffs. Not surprising, liberals have a very hard time understanding anything that doesn't have to do with pronouns. Trump actually had a plan to try to offset the price increases his tariffs are going to cause. I'm sure liberals are kind of mad he actually created a contingency plan like a responsible leader.

In case you don't know, he's dropping corporate tax rates significantly. That's the plan. At least he had a contingency, unlike almost every POTUS before him so I give him kudos for that.

Personally, I don't see it working as well as he says it will. It isn't enough to offset the supply line costs until those jobs are moved to America, IF it will even happen (that is the hope though). And, reducing corporate tax rates won't really do much for the cost of products from SMB companies, mostly it will just help the bottom line of large companies. SMBs don't have volume relationships or customers so taxes aren't nearly as big of an impact to savings when it comes to EBITDA and other measures.

But again, at least he had some kind of plan to offset, unlike Biden's terrible planning (which was evident in multiple things he did like Afghan withdrawal, inflation problems, etc.) and even other GOP POTUSs.
