SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- California faces a $6.2 billion budget gap in the state's Medicaid services, which could force Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom and Democratic lawmakers to reevaluate future coverage for some of the 15 million people who receive health care through the program, including immigrants. The shortfall comes a year after California launched an ambitious coverage expansion to provide free health care to all low-income adults regardless of their immigration status. That's costing far more than the state projected. California also is bracing for major budget hits if Republicans in Congress follow through with a plan to slash billions of dollars in Medicaid and potentially jeopardize coverage for millions of people. California provides free health care to more than a third of its 39 million people.

And some wonder why (D) approval is sitting in the mid-20 percentile range.

"California faces a $6.2 billion budget gap"

That's about 3% of California's budget.

What's Trump's budget gap?
About 50%.

Outlays at $603 billion in February, receipts at $296 billion
Tariff increases may show up in March receipts, official says

I guess budget deficits only lower approval ratings for Democrats.

Why don't Republicans disapprove of Republican budget deficits, anyone know?

Everyone knows, except you apparently
1. California can't print money.
2. California has been run by Authoritarian Democrats for decades now.
3. Not all of that GAP is Trumps.

Why don't Republicans disapprove of Republican budget deficits, anyone know?

My guess is Republicans don't spend it on welfare? What service would you cut?
Tax breaks for better or worse is still "earned" money, people have an innate sense of fairness.
When working people seee tax dollars go to people not putting out any effort they have a visceral reaction. Even in babies, dogs even understand this.

I see no reason there are "special" programs for people that are here illegally. Same with University or College, why should they get priority?
The State charges an enormous taxation rate on the middle class.
On top of all that, if I removed all the usage of water, and energy from my utility bills, I still pay $300 a month in city hookup charges, and country green energy fees.

Its really incredible here in CA how much the "government" charges without using anything, no company could get away with that.

"Why California's surge in immigration is lifting our economy

The surge of international migrants since 2021 " including refugees, asylum-seekers and others entering legally and illegally " has lifted the U.S. and California economies by filling otherwise vacant jobs, helping to keep job creation strong, growing businesses and pumping millions of tax dollars into state, local and federal coffers.

Payroll taxes on immigrant workers have even helped relieve pressure on the nation's embattled Social Security system."

Immigrants nationwide have been a net plus for the US economy for decades now. And they commit less crimes per capita than do citizens.

OF course, then there's immigrants like 1Nut who can't find their ass with both hands.

Better than most ------- red states.

The numbers only look big until you consider that CA is the world's fifth largest economy.... and has the leading GDP per capita for all economies.

Rich state problems.

6.2 billion is just over a three percent budget deficit for the State of California.

So, it's doing about twenty times better than the United States, where Trump is running a 50% budget deficit.

Any more genius level economic questions from the malcontent crowd?

Why do you ------- liberals continue to conflate IMMIGRANT with ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT? They are not the same and we all know and understand that.

Wow, you don't understand math and/or the comparison of a annual budget vs. monthly tax receipts at the Federal level.

In the liberal mind of someone that never actually contributed tax dollars, to him it is. Maybe we are the crazy ones for actually paying into the system.

There it is.

First and foremost,
You have been a victim of this unjust system your whole life.
Trump is how you get your revenge.
That's what he offers you. That's the hook.

Taking away people's useless cushy work from home government jobs is how you get your revenge.
Cutting school lunches and everything else in education is how you get your revenge.
You get the idea.

It is not revenge, it is common sense. Spend your money wisely. Having you -------- simultaneously crying about Trump making government workers return to the office while also crying that there are not enough people to handle in person issues with the government is the height of stupidity. You have reverted to 2016 era TDS where your only reaction is to disagree with anything Trump proposes.

I don't work for the government.

Can't imagine there will be a government I'd be interested in working for, or would want someone like me working there, much longer.

Though I have worked directly for the Federal Government on three separate occasions, and it didn't really matter what political beliefs I held.

Those days are over, and you're over the moon about it.
