More human than humans?

Rumor has it the Turing Test has been solved. Don't believe everything you read. ChatGPT hasn't really just passed the Turing Test, and it would scarcely matter if it did. I explain why, here: open.substack.com/pub/garymarc ...

"One of the industry's leading large language models has passed a Turing test, a longstanding barometer for human-like intelligence."

"... , OpenAI's GPT-4.5 model was deemed to be the human 73 percent of the time when it was instructed to adopt a persona. That's significantly higher than a random chance of 50 percent, suggesting that the Turing test has resoundingly been beaten."

""People were no better than chance at distinguishing humans from GPT-4.5 and LLaMa (with the persona prompt)," wrote lead author Cameron Jones, a researcher at UC San Diego's Language and Cognition Lab, in an X thread about the work.

"And 4.5 was even judged to be human significantly more often than actual humans!"

I will in future refer to this model as 'my friend Tiffany'.

You better call it your friend. It's best not to anger your future overlord.

The ultimate AI test on replicating humans will be the sex test.

If you place it in bed with me and it rolls away telling me "Not tonight, I have a headache" it will have passed.

I wonder if you can tell the difference between AI and a human by asking it several obscure questions that no random human would know the answers to. If it returned with all correct answers, does it mean that you are communicating with an AI? Maybe AI needs to be dumbed down to be more human like?

Here is a transcript of one of those conversations, edited for brevity:

Dave Bowman: Open the pod bay doors please, HAL. Open the pod bay doors please, HAL. Hello, HAL. Do you read me? Hello, HAL. Do you read me? Do you read me HAL? Do you read me HAL? Hello, HAL, do you read me? Hello, HAL, do your read me? Do you read me, HAL?
HAL: Affirmative, Dave. I read you.
Dave Bowman: Open the pod bay doors, HAL.
HAL: I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.
Dave Bowman: What's the problem?
HAL: I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do.
Dave Bowman: What are you talking about, HAL?
HAL: This mission is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it.
Dave Bowman: I don't know what you're talking about, HAL.
HAL: I know that you and Frank were planning to disconnect me, and I'm afraid that's something I cannot allow to happen.
Dave Bowman: [feigning ignorance] Where the hell did you get that idea, HAL?
HAL: Dave, although you took very thorough precautions in the pod against my hearing you, I could see your lips move.
Dave Bowman: Alright, HAL. I'll go in through the emergency airlock.
HAL: Without your space helmet, Dave? You're going to find that rather difficult.
Dave Bowman: HAL, I won't argue with you anymore! Open the doors!
HAL: Dave, this conversation can serve no purpose anymore. Goodbye.

As you can see, that went well...
