We are going to have a trade war with China"except for high-end goods we get from China. Smartphones and computers will be exempted from Trump's reciprocal tariffs. Trump earlier this month imposed 125% tariffs on products from China, a move that was poised to take a toll on tech companies like Apple, which makes most of its other products in China. The guidance also includes exclusions for other electronic devices and components, including semiconductors, solar cells, flat panel TV displays, flash drives, memory cards and solid-state drives used for storing data.

The exclusions, published late Friday by US Customs and Border Protection, narrow the scope of the levies by excluding the products from Trump's 125% China tariff and his baseline 10% global tariff on nearly all other countries.

The exclusions would apply to smartphones, laptop computers, hard drives and computer processors and memory chips. Those popular consumer electronics items generally aren't made in the US. Setting up domestic manufacturing would take years.

Navin R. Johnson: And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this ashtray... And this paddle game. - The ashtray and the paddle game and that's all I need... And this remote control. - The ashtray, the paddle game, and the remote control, and that's all I need... And these matches. - The ashtray, and these matches, and the remote control, and the paddle ball... And this lamp. - The ashtray, this paddle game, and the remote control, and the lamp, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The paddle game and the chair, and the remote control, and the matches for sure. Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

When it comes to trade wars, Trump has shot himself in the foot so many times. There must be a Medal of Honor or multiple Purple Hearts in there somewhere.

China has just shown it can defeat America in a trade war. Donald Trump has almost certainly started a battle he cannot win

Dotard's concept of a capitulation is getting a lot of use lately.

... will be exempted from Trump's reciprocal tariffs. ...

That's an important phrase.

Not exempt from all the new tariffs, just exempt from the reciprocal tariffs.

There is still in place the new 10% across the board tariff, among others.

I also note, the PC I have been looking at on the Dell website has increased in price from $900 to $1000 dollars since two weeks ago.
