At least nine people were killed and an unknown number were injured when a 30-year-old man drove into a crowd at a Filipino heritage festival in the Canadian city of Vancouver on Saturday. The event celebrates a Filipino martyr who stood up to Spanish colonization in the 16th century. Video shows a young man in a black hoodie with his back against a chain link fence, alongside a security guard and surrounded by bystanders screaming and swearing at him. "I'm sorry," the suspect says, holding his hand to his head. Vancouver has 38,600 residents of Filipino heritage (5.9% of the city's total population).

Almost exactly seven years ago on 23 April 2018, an InCel lunatic rammed his into a crowd in Toronto. 25-year-old Alek Minassian targeted pedestrians, killing 11 and injuring 15, some critically. The Toronto incident is the deadliest vehicle-ramming attack in Canadian history. This maniac in Vancouver came close to outdoing Alek Minassian in Toronto.

7. Since you just did, I guess you think a constant quarter-century drumbeat of xenophobic messaging and internet links stop at the US border. The problem is a lot older than Trump, but he's the most dangerous manifestation of it. By far.

#8. This isnt even about illegal immigration. It's a random act of violence that occurred in Canada.

#9 | Posted by BellRinger at 2025-04-27 11:25 PM | Reply

I wasn't talking about illegal immigration.

Random? Random is more like dropping bricks off an overpass, or a sniper shooting into a completely mixed crowd of 10,000 people. You consider this type of activity an outlier these days? And don't think it's influenced by violent US rhetoric?

I really have no idea. My riding is a Conservative stronghold so I don't bother with it much.
