WASHINGTON, May 5 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday announced a 100% tariff on movies produced outside the country, saying the American movie industry was dying a "very fast death" due to the incentives that other countries were offering to lure filmmakers. "This is a concerted effort by other Nations and, therefore, a National Security threat. It is, in addition to everything else, messaging and propaganda," Trump said on Truth Social.

Talk about the most efficient way to destroy film making.

First-we export $15 Billion more than we import on movies

Second-this will destroy independent film making as they simply cannot afford to make movies in America

Third-reciprocal tariffs will decimate our homegrown movie making industry-think losing all of the sales in China

Fourth-No mention of TV

Fifth-Streaming platforms will be hit hard

Sixth-Many, MANY productions are international, some here some overseas

Seventh-Shitler complains about foreign countries subsidizing movies done in their countries yet ignores the same policies already in effect here (look at where many productions are made-tax havens like GA).

Eighth-the whole movie making industry is going through a massive upheaval with streaming and losses in theater revenue, competition for mid to low budget movies is way down-Distribution companies do not want to spend money on non-surefire hits Thus adding a major tax on the source of MANY films means less interest in one of the money making aspects for film companies, i.e. they will lose money in the long run and we will have fewer movies available to watch

Ninth-How does one even calculate the tariff on a streaming service movie? Their costs and views ARE NOT publicized.

Tenth-Just a really really bad idea

From what I've heard, this unspecific tariff was the result of Pres Trump's apparent new tariff consultant and BFF, Jon Voight.

Trump's actions aren't surprising.

Trump and conservatives hate Hollywood.

I'm curious what makes a movie an import.

Can't they just sell the rights for a dollar to some US subsidiary or partner, and both agree to just claw back the usual revenue from Box Office?

He's a ------- idiot.

Is a movie even a good? Or is it a service?

Is that a door we want ------- to open? The tariffing of services?

This is actually great - and another direct shot at Snow Mexico. Plus, if China and others put on reciprocal tariffs, it will crush Hollywood as well. Will the winning ever stop? All the degenerates in Hollywood will finally be cut off from pumping out their continuous stream of trash pushing 'the message'.

@#3 ... I'm curious what makes a movie an import. ...

Yeah, I wondered that also.

That ambiguity is likely why Pres Trump has been long on bravado and short on details about this tariff.

Is Pres Trump's goal to prevent Hollywood from going to, say, New Zealand to film movies in a landscape appropriate for the movie?

For example, The Lord of the Rings movies?
