News Analysis: As the leader of close to 1.4 billion followers, Pope Leo XIV words matter to nearly one out of every six people in the world. The issues he chooses to focus on can resonate far beyond the church.[image or embed] -- The New York Times (@nytimes.com) May 12, 2025 at 11:23 AM

"The Church recognizes these witnesses " I am thinking of those who report on war even at the cost of their lives " the courage of those who defend dignity, justice, and the right of people to be informed, because only informed individuals can make free choices," he said."
This statement is yet another example of Pope Leo setting the tone, leaning into the Catholic social justice that his predecessor, Pope Francis, was known for. Leo has also called for a ceasefire in Gaza and an end to Israel's blockade on humanitarian aid to the territory."
;; Trump isn't real big on morals and stuff, so it's nice of the new Pope to mention what is about become a bigger issue in America; the President vs the Law, and the suppression of legitimate factual information.
Another thing he has no use for whatsoever.

I'm not surprised at the new Pope's speech.
Sometimes I wonder if that viewpoint was one of the reasons he was elevated to the Bishop of Rome position.

That is true. It's good that you noticed that. That's so very WOKE of you. But if the shoe fits wear it.
The first American Pope in the history of Popes may or may not be talking specifically about America. But it definitely involves us (US).

Listened to a report from Peru from the diocese that he served before moving to the Vatican. They claim he is a Peruvian Pope. Some validity, did he do any parish work in the US? Us trained but immediately posted to Peru. apnews.com
