Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, May 28, 2025

Gov. Ron DeSantis's office announced Tuesday that the Sunshine State hit a new tourism record last year. In 2024, 143 million visitors visited Florida, an increase of 1.7% over the previous record set in 2023. The governor's office said 130.65 million domestic travelers, 8.94 million overseas visitors, and 3.41 million Canadian tourists visited the Sunshine State last year. DeSantis also announced that Florida has welcomed 41.2 million visitors in the first quarter of 2025. "Florida's tourism industry leads the nation," DeSantis said. "These results are proof that our freedom-first policies work " and that Florida remains the best place to visit, work and raise a family." The governor's office said the state is "positioned for even greater success as the most visited destination in the United States."

What is he even talking about?
People aren't going to Florida for policies.
They're going to the beach and to Disney World.

Anyway, I remember reading it's about 10-15% of Florida tourists are foreigners, mostly from Canada.

I expect a lot of those snowbirds will be selling their second homes and buying better homes further South, rather than risk being sent to Detention Camp without a chance to see a lawyer over paperwork mix-ups.

If this news is true, then good for Florida.

But call me a little skeptical when it comes to statistics from a state that decided to skew their Covid result numbers.

"USCB data shows that just over 510,000 Florida residents went to other areas of the U.S. in 2023.

The biggest destination for outgoing Florida migrants was Georgia, likely thanks to its neighboring proximity. Close behind was Texas, which has held a similar political climate in recent years.
