Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Monday, June 30, 2025

When political scientist Seth Masket shared this story on Bluesky yesterday, I couldn't believe it was real. The right-wing Washington Times reported that at a press conference at the NATO Summit in the Netherlands on Wednesday, Trump revealed that he had given Iran permission to bomb the U.S.'s Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar in retaliation for the American bombing of their nuclear sites. "They said, We're going to shoot them. Is one o'clock OK?' I said it's fine," Trump said. "And everybody was emptied off the base so they couldn't get hurt, except for the gunners." I poked around for other major coverage of this extraordinary admission, and landed only on a transcript of the press conference. And yes, amid a characteristically meandering monologue, Trump actually said that he let a foreign adversary bomb an American military installation.

Just throw that treason on top of the other instances of his treason.

Stinky turned the inhabitants of Al Udeid Air Base into crisis actors.

I read, possible right here on the DR, how Iran had given America a heads up about their plan to attack the military base in Qatar.

Couple this with Trump announcing the military strikes were a success and the war is over.

One has to wonder.

Why the spectacle?

Why the distraction?

#3: This is an old tactic to save face. One side speaks "in the clear" on the radio so the other side easily intercepts it. When Iranian intelligence detected the US and Qatari air defenses going up, they launched their less sophisticated (non-Shaheed) drones at Al Udeid Air Base. This way, the Iranian leadership mollifies their base with a successful "strike," as does Trumpf here in the US. This why the Fox reporter questioning the effectiveness of the US strike against Iranian nuclear facilities angered the junta.
