Having the world's most prized education system came with benefits you cannot purchase. The children of world leaders would come to the U.S. and pay handsomely to learn about our culture. Those educated in America would become political leaders in their own countries thus giving America's foreign policy an edge that few other countries enjoy. It's easier to open a discourse with another person when you have shared experiences and cultural understanding.

Pres Trump seems to have a war against American "soft power" around the world.

Why would that be?

Well, understanding "soft power" requires empathy.

Pres Trump only seems to understand cruelty.

Here in Texas they just passed a law by the super-gerrymandered "majority" that strips any power or advisory capacity from college faculty senates.

But wait, there's more!

The new bill also forbids any professor from straying out of strict course content according to the course; of course(!) there is also an anonymous complaint line, so now Texas is more like 1970 China, wherein any student or anyone anywhere can anonymously complain about a professor, who then MUST be investigated within thirty days.

Don't like your D in American History, file a complaint and claim your prof criticized Trump!
Your prof criticized this bill in class? File a complaint and get her investigated!

New academics will avoid Texas now, much as they are avoiding Florida.
