OK, it is too late in the season for US farmers to plant tomato plants that will yield fruit this season.

Stated differently, I am currently enjoying the tomatoes of a local farmer who planted her tomato plants back in early spring.

So, as usual, Pres Trump does not seem to have any real purpose behind this current tariff besides an apparent attempt of a headline grab.

He, obviously, does not seem to understand the life cycle of tomato plants. And the headlines blast his ignorance on that to the world.

So, what is his purpose here?

... the grocery staple ...

And, if I may add, tomatoes are not just those red, round things you see in the produce section of the supermarket you frequent.

They are also a major source for other products you may buy.

Ketchup.

Various tomato sauces (e.g., canned or bottled spaghetti sauce).

V-8 juice.

etc ...

So, more grocery inflation?

Trump's tariffs have created "instability" and "fear."

The price of pizzas will now go up.

I'm sure that no one will notice that.

It has been suggested that Trump has no real financial purpose behind these tariffs, but just wants others to hiss his orange ---

This suggestion is entirely right.

I always grow cherries because they do well here. But this year the fruit isn't setting, lots of blooms but nothing. I guess not enough sun.

Now you have to buy american tomatoes - the ones that are picked before they are ripe so they have no flavor, and then stored in a gas chamber to delay rotting. And most americans are too stupid to notice, if they even consume fresh tomatoes.

"So, what is his purpose here?"

I can only imagine the word salad he would create trying to explain it but I hope some clever reporter gets to confront him with that question.
