Nigeria has long been an epicenter of Christian persecution, with more killed for their faith in Nigeria than in the rest of the world combined. More than 7,000 Christians had been killed during the first 220 days of 2025, a civil-society watchdog said.

The violence has displaced at least 12 million Christians since 2009, according to Intersociety. That year marked the start of Boko Haram's insurgency to establish a caliphate in Nigeria and the broader Sahel.

In the 16 years since, it's estimated that 189,000 civilians have been killed - 125,000 of whom were Christians and 60,000 liberal Muslims.

Engineered by "outside" influences.

This is a horror show in Nigeria, but it's not as simple as some obvious religious conflict; in many cases it doesn't matter to the Fulani who they are killing. The Islamic terrorists seem to be more targeted, but they aren't above killing their own.

Water scarcity, oil pollution, environmental degradation, manifest corruption, and enormous income inequality are fueling the tribal wars in Nigeria, not religious differences as Islamophobes would have you believe. These problems led to the growth of 'Boko Haram' (meaning 'the West is sinful') and the MEND: Link One /// Link Two

In the Sahel, the Tuaregs are similarly fighting against Western imperialism and the environmental degradation left behind by the French uranium mining industry so they end up joining AQIM. For decades the Naxalites (Maoists) in India have been fighting the oppressive Hindu-caste system which keeps the Untouchables (Dalits) at the bottom.

Prima facie all of these conflicts may look religious in nature, but they are all about economic, social, environmental, and political injustices.

So were the Germans.

Imagine if the genocidal leadership of Boko Haram flew annually to the US and was greeted by a standing ovation by 95% of Congress and was feted in honor by the President of the United States.

Imagine if that same leadership was given 300 billion dollars of high-tech weaponry and technology to continue an 80-year terror campaign of occupation, oppression and ethnic cleansing of the indigenous people who have lived for generations on the same lands it claims as solely its own.

Imagine if Boko Haram owned so much influence in the American corporate world and mainstream media that it could fool the majority of the American people for decades into thinking it was the ongoing victim of unprovoked aggression by some of the most impoverished people in the world.

Imagine if Boko Haram used its spies and influencers to skew American political discourse and had the Epstein files at the ready to blackmail the highest echelons of American leadership so that it could continue all of the above into the foreseeable future.

You can't. Those Boko Haram, they are just a bunch pikers.

#8 Imagine if Boko Haram promoted Western civilization instead of trying to destroy it, you you God-less communist creep.

from Gemini: It is popularly known in Nigerian and Western media as "Boko Haram," which means "Western education is forbidden" (the word boko is a holdover from the colonial English word for book).

Do you honestly think no civilization is better than any other?

Thank you for those links with additional information. However, you're either arguing against a straw man that religion is the only cause of these conflicts (which no one has claimed), or you're promoting a false premise that religion plays little or no role at all. 'Boko Haram', which literally means 'Education is sinful', is an extremist Islamic sect. Of course, groups like that always conflate secular grievances with their cause to gain sympathy for their activities.

By parroting the anti-western narrative, you're playing right into the hand of the local xenophobes and bigots, as well as outsiders like the Russians and Chinese who've been stoking that so they can exploit African countries themselves.
