Here in Connecticut we use paper ballots.

We fill in circles on the ballot with a marker, indicating our choice(s).

The paper ballot is then read by a scanner and then the paper ballot is saved in case a recount is needed or desired.

There is a valid paper trail.

Go to paper. I live in South America and in our democracy we have elections and count all the ballots in a single day with volunteers that are notified before an election to do the work. 98% of people vote and our democracy does not have any of the ugly residue that the U$A does in their electronic BS events. There are observers from several parties overseeing the balloting and never do they have issues.
