Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, January 14, 2026

As the people of Iran brave another intensifying crackdown by their rulers after another effort to reclaim their basic rights from one of the world's most repressive regimes, my question is: Where are the protests in the West? Specifically, where are all those defenders of persecuted Muslims who have been so active on the streets of New York, London, Sydney, Rome and elsewhere the past two years? Where are the demands for justice and freedom for the downtrodden victims of a brutally repressive state? What is so different about the cause they have been espousing in their demonstrations over Gaza and the cause of the millions of innocent coreligionists 1,000 miles to their east? Those kaffiyeh-wearing, banner-waving, slogan-chanting activists say they were moved to protest, sometimes violently and unlawfully, by the plight of Muslims dispossessed of their lands and livelihoods, immiserated, starved, beaten and murdered by a savage regime.

One thing is for certain: we all know which side Obama and Biden's handlers are rooting for - the mullahs.

I haven't seen any Republicans protesting. They must be rooting for the Mullahs too.

My official position is that America should keep out of the Iran situation. America can only make matters worse (and that would be with a competent president at the helm).

Any American involvement will play into the Mullah's hands as it reinforces THEIR message that the upheaval is due to outside agitators.

America should learn the Libya intervention lesson, stay out of civil wars.

But President Piggy won't. He will bomb Iran and BEST case the regime responds with a token response. Piggy will then demand all of Iran's oil.

Of course, the potential worst case is the Iranian regime faces an existential threat and decides to go scorched earth and bombs everyone in their neighborhood, unleashes terrorist attacks and oh yeah has developed a dirty bomb or two from their nascent nuclear program.

So, yeah, I don't trust President Piggy to handle this well.

Thanks magat scum.

Mosquito bites are annoying. I use my finger nail and put an "x" on them. For some reason it seems to reduce the itch.

Hey Truth,

I do agree with you, in principle, that we need to stay out of it.

But what should be done? Anything?

Progressives sure want a lot to be done about Gaza, but nothing in Iran?

Do you honestly not understand the difference between what is happening in Iran and what is happening in Gaza?

Seriously?

America is complicit in Israeli's genocide and American progressives were/are protesting to stop that violence by attempting to get our government to change it's policy towards Israel.

America has no current say over Iran's actions. Progressives are all for Iran liberating itself from tyrannical rule. But there is not much that protesting here could achieve there.

The Iran situation is incredibly complex and there is not much America could do without making things worse. I laid out some of those concerns in 6 above.

The pragmatist in me says we should be careful about wishing the downfall of the Ayatollahs. Those are people without a great deal of scruples. If they are about to fall and see gallows in their future who knows how they would lash out including terrorist attacks and possibly dirty bombs.

The downfall of Saddam should be a lesson to all; the fall of the Ayatollah won't lead to democracy and unicorns. There will be massive civil war, leading to migration, leading to even more disruption in the region and yes immigration legal and otherwise into America.

The downfall of Saddam should be a lesson to all;

Remember the good old days when Saddam kept his boot on Iran's neck so they couldn't get up off the floor?

Good old days?

You really mean that or are you being Sarcastic?

8 million deaths and you call that the "Good Old Days?

I hope that was Sarcastic, because if it wasn't you can just ---- Right Off,Big Boy.
