Advocates for the refugees, many of whom fought the Taliban alongside U.S. forces, say the plan is intended to pressure them to return to Afghanistan at great personal risk.
Afghan refugees who once helped U.S. forces have been stranded for years at a former U.S. military base in Qatar. The refugees say they are being forced to choose between returning to Taliban-ruled Afghanistan or resettling to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
