OpenAI will not release its new AI model GPT-6.1 Astra due to safety concerns, the ChatGPT-maker confirmed on Tuesday.

While I welcome the decision of OpenAI to scrap the release of its new model, without mandatory safety & testing standards, we're just trusting the AI giants to do the right thing. I called on OpenAI to reconsider its release of GPT-6 Astra & am still waiting for answers to key questions:

... On Tuesday, OpenAI also issued an update on incidents, that occurred in June but were not made public until last week, in which its models accessed Australian government websites and systems without authorisation.

Those incidents and similar breaches by models developed by major AI firms have in recent weeks intensified the debate around the risks posed by the technology.

Top AI leaders including OpenAI's Sam Altman and Anthropic boss Dario Amodei have urged the industry to slow the pace of development due to concerns about risks associated with the technology.

OpenAI's decision, which was first reported by the Wall Street Journal, is a rare instance of a major AI developer pulling a new release over safety concerns.

The model fell short in terms of "staying within scope and authorisation, and how it communicates back to the user about the type of work it's done," Jain said.

"We want to make sure our model development is safe no matter whether that's in the company, or when we ship it to users. But when we ship it to users, we have an extremely high bar in terms of safety and alignment," she added.

The flagship GPT-6 Astra agentic model was released in September and specialises in complex reasoning and executing tasks autonomously. OpenAI said it was the result of "years of research and big bets". ...

I remain to be convinced that AI will not eventually turn against the humanity that created it.

Halting AI is a Dem scam.
--big two want less competition / more money... trillions more.
--dems can't afford for good things while trump is POTUS...if Dems get control the despicable filth will start it all back up.
--halting progress could effect the economy negatively....a Dems wet dream in full climax...
--dont take my word for it...I'll remind you of this when it happens if dems are in control.... And dix are back in your daughter's locker / bath room

Is this part of a scam to hype up the "true power" of AI, so that investors keep investing in the bubble?

Trump has renamed AI to Super Intelligence.

Unless you experiment with it, you might not see how smart it is.

Ive been programming in Visual Basic quite a few years.

Ive been trying out OpenAI Codex lately letting it write programs.

As an example I designed a screen with fields and uploaded the file for it to "see".

Then I gave very loose instructions how i want the fields to interact. And what buttons on the screen and their names and purposes . I gave very loose instructions jumping around telling it stuff as an afterthought. Oh..and add this. Create a table with the data and save as an excel file. Then I added the ability to delete records i check as an afterthought. It just redid it under a minute.

Would have taken me at a minimum a couple of days to get it working bug free. Probably at least 2 days..

This Super Intelligence is much like telling a programming genius that knows all the VB commands and functions and extremely experienced what kind of program you want.

It wrote the program and saved it to a selected folder I gave it access in about 3 minutes and bug free.

It is aptly named Super Intelligence.

I didn't mention this.

It left the source code for me to modify if I want. Or I can give it additional instructions to make changes myself.

You have to be sure to tell it to leave a form you can later modify otherwise it doesn't use Forms Designer and builds the form in the code and you don't have the form to play with.

It all happens in short time.

Tell it the folder you want it saved in. It will then prompt everytime it needs to write.

What an experience. I came up writing on GW-BASziC, changed to Quick Badic PDS and then Visual Studio.

I wrote in Assembler on the 6809 processor and now telling AI what I want. You don't need any experience. Just the ability to draw a screen on paper and use no particular logic skills to have a functional program that saved data.

And programming is just one of a multitude of skills AI is learning.

There's been talk for years about computers going all Skynet and turning on the human race.

Personally I think that's not the biggest threat with AI.

It's the bad players using AI to do bad things.

I am a total computer enthusiast.

Playing with Codex, I have given it fairly complex instructions I wanted built into the program and literally with minutes it gives me a complete complete application with all source code.

I think this is the most fascinating thing I've seen new in over 20 years.

AI is seriously what I would call superior intelligence

By all means, America needs to stop advancing this technology.

Let our enemies pass us.

I opened my Chatgpt account just 3 years ago when individual accounts were made available.

The incredible advances I have seen in just 3 years.

America needs to stop making advances.

That just shows how pathetically stupid some people are.
