One of the things wrong with the US is the lack anymore of a common culture. Most people under 45 will be drawing a blank. You might as well mention Captain Kangaroo. Or Shari Lewis.

That being said, like any organism, hopefully the US population is capable of evolving its common culture, instead of watching it splinter.
