Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, November 28, 2024

When the country was riven in half by the Civil War in 1863, President Abraham Lincoln declared a national Thanksgiving Day to be held each November where we could gather and express thankfulness. Eight score and one year later, enjoy the football and the feast of turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, cornbread, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie. And don't skimp on the gravy. Try to keep that one uncle distracted so he doesn't talk politics.

Okay, so, Thanksgiving. It's a tricky one for the Pagans, right? Because Christmas? Sure, they can come up with some alternative solstice celebration involving, like, mistletoe and woodland creatures. But Thanksgiving? That's a tough nut to crack. Half of them are walking around saying, "What do I have to be thankful for? My crops failed, my love life's a mess, and my goat ate my lucky amulet." And the other half are going, "Thank who? Exactly? The Great Pumpkin? I don't think so."

Potluck later this afternoon at a football free home. Not very American of us.

Christmas is easy for pagans because it is one-third original pagan, one-third godless consumerism and one-third Christian. They can enjoy 66 percent.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. Food, family and football!

We consider ourselves progressives, but in MAGA world we are labeled commies. All the Pride Flags and unicorns don't help.

Spoke with our son in Detroit. He and his wife just came back from the Thanksgiving day parade and will be watching the Lions game in a bar.

Standing room only admission for $100.

Standing room only admission for $100.

Pretty much encapsulates why I have given up on football. Prices are crazy, contracts through the roof and team valuations continue to climb.
No longer middle class or working family entertainment. Family of 4 can spend over a thousand dollars to attend a game now.
Not a criticism of your son. Lions fans have suffered even more than Vikings fans and I am rooting for them. Year of the Cat.

All Americans have much for which to be thankful this year! A cautionary note, the people that have been running the country in Joe Biden and Kamala's mental absence are working overtime to destroy America. They are not going to stop just because we elected Trump.

Trump is America's Turkey...

... already swing voters are looking at his looney-toon Mafia-style appointments made as payoffs for the bribes they gave him... and at his Tariffs projected to increase both prices and inflation and saying:

"WTF did we DO?!".

A celebration of life is just that, a celebration. Also, she was originally raised Southern Baptist in West 'By God' Virginia by a father who was a lay preacher, and so can say 'AMEN' with the best of them : )

Donald Trump and Joe Biden's Very Different Thanksgiving Day Messages
www.newsweek.com

...
In his final Thanksgiving proclamation as commander-in-chief, Biden emphasized unity and gratitude, thanking troops and first responders for their dedication to keeping the nation safe.

"May we celebrate all that unites us"because there is nothing beyond our capacity if we do it together," Biden said.

The president also reflected on historical moments that shaped the holiday, highlighting President Abraham Lincoln's establishment of Thanksgiving during the Civil War. Biden described Thanksgiving as being "at the heart of America's spirit of gratitude"of finding light in times of both joy and strife."

He offered words of comfort to those grieving during the holiday season, writing, "To anyone with an empty seat at the dinner table...we hold you in our hearts and prayers."

Biden expressed his gratitude to the American people as he nears the conclusion of his 50-year political career, stating, "Serving as president has been the honor of a lifetime. America is the greatest country on Earth, and there is so much to be grateful for."

Earlier on Thursday, in a post on X, formerly Twitter, Biden wrote: "Happy Thanksgiving, America. May we use this moment to take time from our busy lives and focus on what matters most: our families, our friends, our neighbors, and the fact that we've been blessed to live in America, the greatest country on Earth."

In stark contrast, President-elect Trump took to Truth Social with a fiery and combative message as he prepared to return to the White House.

"Happy Thanksgiving to all, including to the Radical Left Lunatics who have worked so hard to destroy our Country, but who have miserably failed," Trump wrote.

Celebrating at his Mar-a-Lago estate, Trump used the occasion to remind Democrats of his self-proclaimed "landslide" victory in the November 5 election. He framed his win as a rejection of what he called the failures of the "Radical Left."

"Their ideas and policies are so hopelessly bad that the great people of our Nation just gave a landslide victory to those who want to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!" Trump stated.

We are doing something different this year, as she is not making her usual holiday meal, rather we have ordered from Mackenzie: The Harvest Feast

She must depart for Columbus Ohio, hitting the road on Friday, so less work and more relaxation for her today as precooked meal and sides, just need heated up and served.

If I did talk politics, I would be mentioning that American Thanksgiving is a weird holiday, it is pretty much honoring the American NAKBA, where white settlers came in, killed the people living in the area, stole their land, and called it home, just as Israel did just after WWII to the Palestinian people.

Thanksgiving is one of my favorites. We volunteer at a food bank year-round. Thanksgiving baskets are prepared the week before and delivered/picked up on Monday. A reminder about being Thankful and grateful. I start baking/cooking on Tuesday. On Thursday we gather. Family and friends, young and old. We eat early. No politics. We pick numbers for our annual Christmas charity gift exchange. I wish everyone a happy Thursday. And as God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!

GO DOLPHINS. This week made history, the Jacksonville Jaguars did not lose NFL Sunday, Monday night football or today. They are on a streak!
