A federal judge has rejected X.AI's request for a temporary restraining order that would have halted enforcement of Minnesota's AI nudification ban. The bill was passed with near unanimous support in both the Minnesota House and Senate earlier this year. The law bans the use of technology that generates fake nude images of real people. X.AI challenged the law, saying the company already prohibits its users from generating nude or sexualized images of people without their consent and claims the Minnesota statute "imposes an overbroad, content-based ban on free speech and the tools of visual expression in a clumsy attempt to prohibit nudification." Louisiana retailers can no longer charge customers extra for using debit cards under a new state law that took effect Saturday, giving consumers new legal protections and expanding the attorney general's authority to enforce the ban. Senate Bill 254 prohibits retail businesses from imposing a surcharge on customers who pay with a debit card instead of cash, check, credit card or another form of payment. The law defines a surcharge as any additional amount charged by a retail business that increases the cost of a transaction for the privilege of using a debit card. It does not apply to credit card transactions. Consumers who are assessed an unlawful debit card surcharge may recover actual damages from the retailer. Before filing a lawsuit, however, the customer must provide written notice of the alleged violation.

Federal officials on Friday released an updated framework for the Colorado River, requiring Arizona, California and Nevada to significantly reduce their water use in the coming years. The plan, released by the Interior Department's Bureau of Reclamation, reduces the water available for use by the three states by 3 million acre-feet in the coming decade. In a recent Politico poll, 66 percent of MAGA voters who cast their ballot for President Trump in his last contest for the White House said they would back a GOP candidate even if "a former partner has accused the Republican candidate of sexual assault" rather than support the Democratic candidate in a hypothetical congressional race.
