Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump says that if he does not win the Nov. 5 election, he will cry fraud and not accept the results -- just as he did four years ago when he lost to Democratic President Joe Biden.
@#7 ... He couldn't pull off a coup when he was president. He's not going to pull one off now. ...
Yeah, I agree, fmr Pres Trump's ability to pull off a coup are diminished because he is not the sitting President.
That aside, there seem to be other plans in place...
OpEd: In Case of an Election Crisis, This Is What You Need to Know

... In 2020, when Donald Trump questioned the results of the election, the courts decisively rejected his efforts, over and over again. In 2024, the judicial branch may be unable to save our democracy.[emphasis mine]
The rogues are no longer amateurs. They have spent the last four years going pro, meticulously devising a strategy across multiple fronts -- state legislatures, Congress, executive branches and elected judges -- to overturn any close election.
The new challenges will take place in forums that have increasingly purged officials who put country over party. They may take place against the backdrop of razor-thin election margins in key swing states, meaning that any successful challenge could change the election.
We have just a few short weeks to understand these challenges so that we can be vigilant about them.
First, in the courts, dozens of suits have already been filed. Litigation in Pennsylvania has begun over whether undated mail-in ballots are permissible and whether provisional ballots can be allowed.
Stephen Miller, a former Trump adviser, has brought suit in Arizona claiming that judges should be able to throw out election results. ...

Former acting solicitor general warns of potential election crisis'
thehill.com
... Former Acting U.S. Solicitor General Neal Katyal sounded the alarm Wednesday about potential dangers surrounding the 2024 election cycle, warning the "crisis" could be worse than the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riots.
"I think we are looking at a very possible constitutional crisis and one that's going to make January 6, 2021, look like a dress rehearsal," Katyal said Wednesday morning in an interview on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."
"And this year, the rogues have had four years to go pro and perfect the big lie."
He joined the outlet to discuss his new op-ed published Wednesday in The New York Times, where the former executive questioned former President Trump's efforts to remain in power in 2020 and forewarned of new challenges ahead of Election Day, now less than three weeks away.
"So, I wrote this piece, I think it's the most important piece I've ever written, because I'm really wanting to warn the American people about what very well may happen on November 5th and then the days to come," Katyal told the host. "And we shouldn't be surprised when Donald Trump sends out his lawyers to challenge everything." ...

Pildes rains on Katyal's parade.
A recent essay Neal Katyal authored in the New York Times is a good illustration of these anxieties. Katyal raised several nightmare scenarios for "a potential election crisis" under which, in his view, corrupt partisan actors could seek to deprive Vice President Kamala Harris of a lawful victory, if in fact she wins the election. But in each of the scenarios Katyal raises, the guardrails that are already in place should temper these concerns.www.lawfaremedia.org

Lyrics excerpt...
...
Fumbling his confidence
And wondering why the world has passed him by
Hoping that he's bent for more than arguments
And failed attempts to fly, fly
[Chorus]
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
Somewhere we live inside
Somewhere we live inside
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
