Trump Team Plans Court Martial Trials over Afghan Withdrawal

The Trump transition team is compiling a list of senior current and former U.S. military officers who were directly involved in the withdrawal from Afghanistan and exploring whether they could be court-martialed for their involvement, according to a U.S. official and a person familiar with the plan.

A 2022 independent review by the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction blamed both the Trump and Biden administrations for the chaotic U.S. withdrawal in 2021.

Trump first reached an agreement with the Taliban in 2020 to withdraw all U.S. forces from Afghanistan, roughly 13,000 troops, and release 5,000 Taliban fighters from prison. The Biden administration then completed the withdrawal and badly overestimated the ability of Afghan government forces to fight the Taliban on their own.

He should impeach himself for rigging it to go badly

Oh yes be sure to make this a very public trial.

people died....there should be court marshals...

not at all surprised someone like truthhurts doesn't care about the dead people.

and if it exposes this BS that trump "rigged it"....let that chip fall...

more likely "you people" don't want it to happen because it wont.

If court martials are going to lead to institutional learning then sure lets do it. We ducked up and learning how and why and making sure we never make those mistakes again is vital.

If court martials are just for scapegoating and revenge then maybe let's not bother.

"not at all surprised someone like truthhurts doesn't care about the dead people."

To be fair, the dead people don't care about the rest of us.

In fact, we should just simple say "It was the greatest withdrawal in the history of warfare, it was beautiful victory, everyone is saying it was a perfect redeployment!"

that is what ------- would have said

"people died....there should be court marshals ... "

You don't even know how to spell it much less what it means to court-martial our generals. We don't court-martial our generals when people die in a war.

But our enemies know exactly what it means and they are very happy to hear about it. Champagne corks are popping all over the Kremlin.

There is only one reason why there will be court-martials.

Revenge and retribution.

Enjoy being lead by a fascist dictator with the emotional mind of a 2 year old child.

@#1 ... A 2022 independent review by the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction blamed both the Trump and Biden administrations for the chaotic U.S. withdrawal in 2021. ...

My view is that this plan by the Trump team is more of a cover-up to their true goal...

Get rid of or punish the Generals and other higher military officials (retired or otherwise) who do not and/or have not professed loyalty to the cult of Trump over their sworn loyalty to the Constitution.

For example...

General Mark Milley

St. John's Church incident
Milley wearing combat uniform walking behind Trump while escorting the President from the White House to St. John's Episcopal Church
Milley walking behind Trump from the White House to St. John's Episcopal Church on June 1, 2020

On June 1, 2020, during the protests in Washington, D.C., following the murder of George Floyd, Milley, in combat uniform, walked with the president from the White House across Lafayette Square to St. John's Episcopal Church about half an hour after federal officers and police had used tear gas and other riot control tactics to disperse protestors, drawing sharp criticism from former military officers and others.[74][75][76][77][78]

According to Peril, Milley attended the walk in combat fatigues as he had been summoned away at short notice from a planned visit to an FBI operations center, and immediately departed once he and Esper realized the political implications of the walk, saying that he felt "sick" and was "------- done with this ----" to Esper.[79][80] As a result, Milley was not present for Trump's photo op at St. John's Church.[79][81] The House Armed Services Committee subsequently requested that Esper and Milley testify before the committee about the military's role in the George Floyd protests, which they did on July 9.[82][83]
Unsent resignation letter

Milley reportedly considered resigning over the incident in front of the St. John's Church, going so far as to draft a highly critical resignation letter to President Trump, but then deciding against handing the letter over to him. The resignation letter draft was later published in 2022.[84] At the last minute before submitting the resignation letter to the president, Milley opted against resignation and instead apologized for his presence at the St. John's Church incident in a video recorded as his commencement address at the National Defense University on June 11. At the commencement speech he explained that he should not have been at the event because his presence created a perception of military involvement in domestic politics.[85][86] ...

It was an unmitigated disaster. I am having difficulty seeing it rise to the level of being criminal given everyone was simply following orders that came from the top.

Yeah, that tends to happen when Trump cuts the withdrawal force from 4,500 to 2,500 against the recommendations of his Generals and releases 5,000 terrorists from prison prior to the withdrawal.

Those two things sound criminal to me.

#16. FFS Biden was not bound by any decisions Trump made. He bragged about rescinding a boatload of Trump Executuve Actins during his first week in office. He and his administration wan 100% of how the withdraw was carried out.

Anyone who thinks the Generals in charge of the withdrawl deserve vourtmartial would probably pin medals on Geotge W Bush for his briliant ideas of invading Iraq and Afghanistan anf flying thedis out of America while no Americans could fly anywhere. I hotreason.I have far more faith that they would defend the Constitution far better than he will. Russia would probably be better off the same way.
