And folks wonder why kids never move out of the house or can't take care of themselves.
I would be amiss if I don't mention these are the same types who think a 10yr rape victim should be forced to have the baby.

Yeah she should never have been even contacted by the police. We used to go miles on our bikes.

Hell, I walked a mile to and from school in first grade, and hitchhiked to and from high school on a daily basis. My sisters walked to school and on occasion hitchhiked. Every child should be given a bike for Xmas this year...

From 8 years old & on, I walked miles everywhere. My 1st 15 years were in Sea Cliff NY, on Long Island less than 20 miles from NYC. At 11, me and some buddies took the train & a subway into NYC, walked down to Chinatown, bought bags & more bags of fireworks from a guy in a back alley and took them back and had a bad-ass war out on the beach with them. (Granted, this was early 60s.) A kid walking less than a mile into town? What the eff? The damn cops need arresting.

As a GenXer we walked everywhere. I just don't understand anymore. I really don't.

As a parent I raised four boys.

I still can't believe I have never been arrested.

I used to ride many miles alone or with friends on my bike in remote wooded and exurban areas as a 10-12 year old. Never had any problems with cops.

That was in the early seventies Tho.

Completely agree

Yeah this is -------- for sure. Whatever law she was charged under needs to be examined. I have a 9 year old, I'm less concerned about him than I am the police and/or CPS. 10 is 5th grade, I was absolutely running around the neighborhood then, and pretty far in Junior high. Hell I was walking to school in 5th grade probably not too much shorter of a distance than this kid was.

How did you draw that conclusion?

I read the headline and was sure the mom would be a person of color. Can add stupid to the list of identifiers to Georgia deputies.

Literally just had lunch with my own mom and we were discussing a similar topic.

Basically the we've gone too far with the mass labelling of toxic masculinity and taking the role of Dad's away. Generally, and not to broad brush too much, Mom's are the consolers and the Dad's are the "rub some dirt" on it parent.

Kids need both... Broad brush but the moms are the I don't want the kids to walk to school parent, and the dads are the suck it up and walk we did it when we were kids parent.

Now we minimize the Dad and call it toxic masculinity and we infantilize the kids.

This mom has it right, and the rest of society needs to stop clutching their pearls for her.
