Mitt Romney Predicts JD Vance will be GOP's 2028 Nominee

"If you were to ask me who the nominee will be in 2028 I think it'd be JD, Vance," Romney said. "He's smart, well-spoken, part of the MAGA movement." "The Republican Party has become the party of the working class, middle class voter, and you got to give Donald Trump credit for having done that and taken that away from the Democrats," he said.

Romney faults Democrats, rather than crediting Republicans, for working-class voters supporting Trump over Vice President and presidential candidate Kamala Harris, and criticizes progressives for getting behind "absolutely nutty stuff." That includes the "defund the police" movement, an "open borders" immigration policy and "biological males competing in girls sports." "That drove a lot of working families and minorities out of the Democratic Party," Romney said.

"The Republican Party is now the party of working-class Americans. It used to be Democrats, all the time I've been alive it was Democrats." But he seemed skeptical that Republicans could hold that base, criticizing GOP policies that "don't necessarily line up" with the working class. The party's reluctance to raise the minimum wage or support labor unions could give Democrats an opportunity to realign, Romney said.

I don't often agree with Romney but what you quoted seems pretty spot on to me.

@ BellRinger

I agree with Mitt more than with most of what's left in the GOP. Left out the below:

"I don't know how they recover," he said. "They have lost their base. Union guys and gals have left the Democratic Party and are voting Republican, and the Democratic Party is seen not as rich people, but as college professors and woke scolds, and that's not an attractive feature."

Censored,

I don't disagree with that.

Mitt is correct. Democrats should accept this and pivot away from trying cater to individual groups of people - 'gay' 'trans' 'poor' 'African American' etc - get back to catering to 'middle class' and leave it at that. Then, if youre gay or black and want to take a chance on the GOP, go for it. As the liberal Harris voter I was, even I find this 'they/them' thing somewhat mind boggling and know I'm not alone. Dems look lost and foolish when cornered about this on TV and try to explain how someone with a penis and beard isn't a man. I'll be crucified for this point of view, but IMO until democrats drop this type of identity politics, they'll keep getting beat. Calling people that voted MAGA 'filth' and acting morally superior to them isn't going to make them vote Democrat again, either. Democrats should simply say, 'we're going to work to make middle class America's life better' and go from there.

Not simply saying it doesn't cut it anymore. They said it for 2020 but didn't end up helping the middle class, they just pissed them off.

#6 | Posted by fishpaw at 2024-12-17 02:33 PM

simply saying it

They're going to embalm Donald, prop him up in a chair, and run him again for 2028.

It will be his best job performance to date.

He'll also be the incumbent. With Uday as his already-sitting vice president.

This was the Plan all along; Make the Tech-Bros Billionaires Great Again.

We had a thread a few months ago on this plan to have JD Vance as President (Pres Thiel).

I don't believe all his palaver about staying in office after this coming 4-year term was proffered lightly. I have no doubt he'll use the same playbook he used on January 6th. There's no ambiguity here...a line is about to be drawn in this country. Choose your side now before that choice is made for you. Choose wisely.

Re 6/7 - this falls in the 'no sh**, Sherlock' category. Obviously, Democrats will have to come up with - or reemphasise/repackage their already stated - policy positions to back up their stated goals of HOW they will help the the middle class. Taking policy positions to ensure Tommy Transgender plays girls HS sports, or Bob Blackman gets a reparation check, or Inez Illegal can waltz across the border with no consequence are loser issues for Democrats and really do nothing for the middle class as a whole except divide them. Sure, Democrats may be able to claim the moral high ground but that doesn't do anyone any good if they cant win an election to pass new legislation.

Democrats and really do nothing for the middle class as a whole

What makes you think you're getting anything from Donald?

I mean, really?

Um, what did he do for you last time? Besides killing off a few of your friends and relatives?

This is an amazing mystery: Why anyone thinks that that Donald even thinks about them, much less will work for them; much less has anything that it takes to get something for them?

You are really this desperate? Seems sad.

I have stated before - I have never voted for a fkin republican in my life and never will. Dotard has done nothing for me - the day the bullet missed him was the worst day of 2024. I live in a red state s****ole and am tired of Democrats losing elections. People suck, and counting on them to make the moral and right decision is a losing strategy - it's why we're where we are today. Dotard should have been shot for treason after Jan 6, and instead, he won an election. Why???

"the day the bullet missed him was the worst day of 2024"

I believe he would win after that day. Not before.

Heehaw is dead on correct.

No doubt it flies miles above Zed's pointy little head.
