President-elect Donald Trump floated the idea on Sunday that the U.S. should buy the Arctic island of Greenland because of its strategic importance to the U.S. and NATO. While Greenland is currently not for sale, the U.S. has purchased land and territories from other countries in the past.
Trump's former Ambassador to Denmark Carla Sands: "The idea that little Denmark, which can't even defend its own territory can defend Greenland, is preposterous ... I think that what President Trump is suggesting [to buy Greenland] is a common-sense solution"
