More from the article...

... An asteroid that could level a city now has a 3.1-percent chance of striking Earth in 2032, according to NASA data released on Tuesday, making it the most threatening space rock ever recorded by modern forecasting.

But, despite the rising odds, experts say there is no need for alarm. The global astronomical community is closely monitoring the situation and the James Webb Space Telescope is set to fix its gaze on the object, known as 2024 YR4, next month.

"I'm not panicking," Bruce Betts, chief scientist for the nonprofit Planetary Society told AFP.

"Naturally when you see the percentages go up, it doesn't make you feel warm and fuzzy and good," he added, But as astronomers gather more data, he explained, the probability will likely edge up before rapidly dropping to zero. ...

They upped it after the full moon.

But, despite the rising odds, experts say there is no need for alarm.

Then what's the point of the thread? Nothing to see here.

I believe 2023 and 2024 have already happened

@#4 ... I believe 2023 and 2024 have already happened ...

As do I.

Yeah, there is a typo in the article, which I quoted. (oops)

It should be 2032, not 2023.

I missed that.

I thank your eagle-eyes for the correction!

:)

asteroid could smash into Earth in 2023.

So this is hell, makes sense.

(Btw, joke poking fun. Saw that it's 2032.)

Don't worry. I'm sure Elon will be getting tens, if not hundreds, of billions of dollars in contracts to develop new meaningless ways of landing rockets that don't do s(*& to further a actual goal while claiming he's saving humanity from the big bad asteroid.

What did von Braun warn about? A series of fake imperatives?

I'm rooting for the asteroid.

It would be nice if marlargo was in it's crosshairs.

Speaking of probabilities..

I'd bet this Orwellian freak has a 3 percent chance of ever getting laid without paying for it.

I wonder what kind of bribe the little grey guys would need to give it a nudge in the right direction. Maybe something creative, like a modified orbit with a really close perihelion so it comes back around and hits earth with a respectable percentage of C - .03% would fix everything :)
