More lies from Democrats about rising grocery prices

A tweet from the official Democratic Party's X account was ridiculed on Thursday after inadvertently showing prices skyrocketing under former President Joe Biden. The post attempted to describe rising grocery prices under "Trump's America" using a graph dating from October 2019 to 2025. The graph claimed that "U.S. Grocery Prices Reached Record Highs in 2025" with prices "higher today than they were on July 2024" in categories such as dairy, produce and meat. However, many X users pointed out that the graph, in fact, showed prices skyrocketing in 2021 when Biden was president and only leveling off at the end of 2024 when President Donald Trump was re-elected.

Comments

... "U.S. Grocery Prices Reached Record Highs in 2025" ...

From the graph shown in the Fox News article, that appears to be a correct statement.

Indeed, the graph does show rising grocery prices under Pres Trump, after mostly leveling off near the end of Pres Biden's term, as the summary states.

So, where are the lies?

Not me.

" However, many X users pointed out that the graph, in fact, showed prices skyrocketing in 2021"

Wow.

Prices up in 2021?!? I'm sure there was NO REASON for it.

Of course, before Biden gets the blame for the third stimulus, remember Trump wanted the third stimulus to be 42% higher, which would've made inflation WORSE.

I hear housing prices are at their highest point ever.

And, fwiw, the container of Folgers coffee that used to cost me $9.99 a year or so ago, today is $14.99.

A 50% increase.

#6 | Posted by LampLighter at 2025-07-25 07:46 PM

Who the eff drinks Folgers?

Please don't figure out real coffee is better and drive up the price!

#7 | Posted by snoofy at 2025-07-25 07:51 PM

Folgers Crystals went up 3 dollars to 13.00 from 9.99. That's what it is today.

#8 | Posted by LauraMohr at 2025-07-25 07:52 PM

Grocery prices aren't going up.

Prices are staying low.

Low. Just like the ages of the girls Trump is associated with in the Epstein Files.

#9 | Posted by snoofy at 2025-07-25 07:57 PM

@#7 ... Who the eff drinks Folgers? ...

I do.

I prefer the extra caffeine level of the robusta beans.

Yeah, I know that the arabica beans may be a more ~gourmet-oriented~ coffee because of the reduced caffeine levels of the arabica beans (caffeine is a bitter substance).

But, I have my single morning cup of coffee, not for a taste sensation, but for the caffeine.

To be honest, I'm OK with the taste.

If I want a more flavorful beverage in the morning, a coffee of arabica beans would not be on my list of things to try. Too many other better options.

Who the eff drinks Folgers?

I do. Once the price of a 1lb of Peets reached $16. I switched, and I really don't regret it.

And, fwiw, the container of Folgers coffee that used to cost me $9.99 a year or so ago, today is $14.99.

In Silicon Valley its only $12.99.

#11 | Posted by oneironaut at 2025-07-25 08:09 PM

I prefer the extra caffeine level of the robusta beans.

I drink it too, but spare me the "extra caffeine" claim.

From the graph shown in the Fox News article, that appears to be a correct statement.

You clearly don't know what you're looking at.

Its transient inflation according to Snoofy, that jumped like crazy under Biden.

Democrat twitter account put their foot in it, lets just give them the L.

#13 | Posted by oneironaut at 2025-07-25 08:11 PM

I thought grocery prices were going to come down on Day 1?

Instead they just keep going up.

Did a Pedo fool his Pedo Loving Followers?

So where is the lie?

"U.S. Grocery Prices Reached Record Highs in 2025"
or
"higher today than they were on July 2024"

If it was inflation instead of just corporate greed, why were there record corporate profits?

#15 | Posted by Sycophant at 2025-07-25 08:13 PM

@#14 ... Instead they just keep going up.
...
So where is the lie? ...

Yup, that seems to be the case.

Which is why I also asked where the prevarication might reside.

#16 | Posted by LampLighter at 2025-07-25 08:24 PM

... and, fwiw, this whole thread seems to show how the MAGA cult appears to be unable to comprehend simple pricing data. Even when shown a picture of that data.

Coffee shortage news reports: a timeline

Reports of a recent coffee shortage began appearing in news outlets around late 2024 and early 2025, with increasing frequency as prices rose and supply concerns mounted.
Here's a breakdown of the timeline:
December 2024:
News outlets reported that coffee prices were soaring due to droughts in Brazil and Vietnam, major coffee-producing countries.
Concerns about the 2025 harvest in Brazil pushed Arabica coffee prices to a record high on December 10th, surpassing a previous record set in 1977.
February 2025:
Stories highlighted rising coffee prices in various locations, including Tulsa, Oklahoma, attributing the increase to poor harvests and drought conditions in Brazil and Vietnam.
Wholesale Arabica coffee prices reached a new record of $4.30 a pound.
News reports detailed the impact of climate change on coffee production, noting that the cost of Arabica had jumped 70% and Robusta had doubled in price over the past year.
March 2025:
The global coffee trade was described as "grinding to a halt" due to brutal price hikes, with traders and roasters reducing purchases.
US coffee prices were expected to rise further as global supply chains continued to struggle.
April 2025:
Reports indicated that global coffee green exports were down 14.2% from the previous year, according to the International Coffee Organization.
May 2025:
Coffee prices surged sharply in April, driven by global supply shortages and increased production and shipping costs, according to Mexico Business News.
The price increase for roasted and instant coffee was the steepest monthly surge in recent years.
While some reports mentioned signs of hope for 2025 as production was expected to recover, concerns remained about potential future deficits.

Now I buy good coffee and grind the beans for a fresher cup. Reading the news in '24 I've stocked up on many bags before the price rose much and have enough stocked to last about a year when hopefully the prices may come down, but if they don't I have been for months now and will continue to drink ones that cost me about 7 to 8 dollars a bag.

BTW: Though always has been expensive, this is my all time favorite, but as a Folgers drinker, doubtful that you'd appreciate it [and in its's case it always was/is expensive]:

Small Brazilian coffee producers fear for the future after Trump's 50% tariff
