Obamacare Premiums Set to Skyrocket for Poorest Americans

Affordable Care Act (ACA) enhanced premium tax credits are set to expire at the end of this year. The enhanced tax credits both increased the amount of financial assistance already eligible ACA Marketplace enrollees received as well as made middle-income enrollees with income above 400% of federal poverty guidelines eligible for premium tax credits. Since the introduction of the enhanced premium tax credits, enrollment in the Marketplace has more than doubled from about 11m to over 24m people, the vast majority of whom receive an enhanced premium tax credit. If enhanced tax credits expire, many Marketplace enrollees will continue to qualify for a smaller tax credit, while others will lose eligibility altogether and be hit by a "double whammy" of losing their entire tax credit and being on the hook for rising premiums. For many Americans, their premiums will double.

The GOP has always hated the ACA which was Obama's signature legislation from his first term because it allowed the lower middle class afford health insurance. They have tried hundreds of times to repeal it, but outright repeal is unpopular so in both of Cankles tax scams they are putting a pillow over its face...first by repealing the mandate penalties and now by removing the subsidies.

Will they offer their own plan? No because that helps the lower middle class.

This is why the Dems are in the wrong with the government shutdown. They're stalling over an extension of a policy that was intended to provide assistance during COVID. COVID is over.

On Medicaid, maybe there is some room for discussion. But in my mind, the Dems are shutting down the government over policies that affect a minority of the population. A minority that contributes the least to society. Seems kinda dumb, doesn't it?

Why should healthcare insurance the costliest of them all not go up??

Healthcare is extremely expensive in the US. Never have I heard any party try to fix it. Perhaps we should look at that, if only the ObamaCare promise was truthful, instead all it did us pump money into the healthcare insurance industry. Which eventually caused a rise in the Healthcare industry.

US General Practitioner : $270,000 to $300,000+ per year,
Italy a GP : 105,000 to 150,000.

idk man seems like the US is over paying its doctors, perhaps make more of them? Why does the US allow the AMA determine the number of doctors? Why can a hospital stop the building of another local hospital? I thought this was a Free market country, at least in the big things, but clearly its worse than any other country.

reason for Skyrocketing is Trump is removing the TEMPORARY extra funds allotted for a few years due to COVID which has been over for years. fact is the cost of obamacare/ACA was already on the rise before COVID as it was never a cost savings.

I am personally aware concerning the ACA. One of my wife's, store managers [family of four] two years ago wats unhappy with the cost of the company's health plan, so decided to look into changing to the ACA - turns out he ended up with staying with the company plan because it was cheaper!

I pay $8.4K per year for my family of four through Cigna Global. That covers 100% of medical coverage and prescriptions. It also covers 75% of dental. It also has some sort of long-term non-work insurance, plus evac insurance. I am quite happy with it.

I'm not sure how it works for doctors, but in Europe, nurses do not have a degree. They go through vocational training.

I'm sure that doctors do have a degree, I just don't know if it's the 12ish year process to get into practicing, like it is in the US.

That's not true. US military retirees are not allowed to use the BX or commissary at overseas locations. I can do it because I'm a contractor, and it's written into my contract.

I found out the hard way when I went to the commissary a few days after I retired and tried to buy some groceries.
