Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Friday, October 03, 2025

Affordable Care Act (ACA) enhanced premium tax credits are set to expire at the end of this year. The enhanced tax credits both increased the amount of financial assistance already eligible ACA Marketplace enrollees received as well as made middle-income enrollees with income above 400% of federal poverty guidelines eligible for premium tax credits. Since the introduction of the enhanced premium tax credits, enrollment in the Marketplace has more than doubled from about 11m to over 24m people, the vast majority of whom receive an enhanced premium tax credit. If enhanced tax credits expire, many Marketplace enrollees will continue to qualify for a smaller tax credit, while others will lose eligibility altogether and be hit by a "double whammy" of losing their entire tax credit and being on the hook for rising premiums. For many Americans, their premiums will double.

The Republican Party has made no secret about their intention to destroy Medicaid, Medicare, and Obamacare (the ACA), as well as privatizing our social security funds. The horrendous effects of the 'BBB" is coming fast and soon for vulnerable Americans, just like the great white shark in Jaws, all just to give fat-a$$ no-good billionaire oligarchs a gigantic and unneeded tax break. Great job on 5 Nov 2024 Republican voters! All of you must be wealthy with private physicians, platinum healthcare plans, and nearby fully-staffed clinics and hospitals to take good care of you and your families when you get sick, injured, or shot.

The GOP has always hated the ACA which was Obama's signature legislation from his first term because it allowed the lower middle class afford health insurance. They have tried hundreds of times to repeal it, but outright repeal is unpopular so in both of Cankles tax scams they are putting a pillow over its face...first by repealing the mandate penalties and now by removing the subsidies.

Will they offer their own plan? No because that helps the lower middle class.

And Republicans don't care. The worst offenders are the dirt-poor MAGA supporters who don't have a pot to piss in, but love having a racist in the White House who "took the country back." Never mind these useful idiots handed over America's wealth to the oligarchs, transferred US foreign policy over to the Kremlin and Jerusalem, and empowered a police state manned with armed runamoks on steroids.

These malefactors have hastened America's decline in every facet imaginable and don't even realize it.

Uneducated MAGA voters in North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia et al realize they 'handed over America's wealth to the oligarchs, transferred US foreign policy over to the Kremlin and Jerusalem, and empowered a police state manned with armed runamoks on steroids?'

I assess that the GOP and oligarchs know it, but Red State ignoramuses that vote for them are oblivious, like unknowing sheep being led to the abattoir by a Judas Goat.

Pedophile Dummkopf Trumpf is a child in an old man's body and is drunk with power. And Trumpf's followers love these imbecilic theatrics, all meant to distract and deflect away from his manifest shortcomings, as well as the greatest transfer of wealth from the bottom to the top in US history.

Meanwhile, no one is discussing the Epstein files and how many times this sexual pervert may have consorted with underage girls that resemble his daughter Ivanka.

And next year more poor Americans will be hurting as an era of austerity will grip the US.

You are just jealous because your "silver" plan doesn't cover the "med-beds".

If you had lived a better life and made better choices you could have access to the med-beds too. And maybe you will someday.. if you ever reach the platinum level.

FAFO time for Trump voters/subsidy recipients

Same for those who depend on rural hospitals and/or Medicaid.

Republicans sure aren't very "pro-life" as they make health care unaffordable "for the least of these" while handing out trillions in tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans.

Why would a subsidy implemented during the COVID era, because of COVID, not be allowed to expire?

Should the government still be sending out cash payments as well?

#15 | Posted by madbomber at 2025-10-04 03:54 AM | Reply

This is why the Dems are in the wrong with the government shutdown. They're stalling over an extension of a policy that was intended to provide assistance during COVID. COVID is over.

On Medicaid, maybe there is some room for discussion. But in my mind, the Dems are shutting down the government over policies that affect a minority of the population. A minority that contributes the least to society. Seems kinda dumb, doesn't it?

At least be honest, its not about affordable healthcare. Its about affordable health insurance.

Car insurance UP
Home insurance UP

Why should healthcare insurance the costliest of them all not go up??

Healthcare is extremely expensive in the US. Never have I heard any party try to fix it. Perhaps we should look at that, if only the ObamaCare promise was truthful, instead all it did us pump money into the healthcare insurance industry. Which eventually caused a rise in the Healthcare industry.

US General Practitioner : $270,000 to $300,000+ per year,
Italy a GP : 105,000 to 150,000.

idk man seems like the US is over paying its doctors, perhaps make more of them? Why does the US allow the AMA determine the number of doctors? Why can a hospital stop the building of another local hospital? I thought this was a Free market country, at least in the big things, but clearly its worse than any other country.

This is caused by Anti-Growth advocates, read WhyNothingWorks by Marc J Dunkelman.

Right after typing:

Looks like you do not know what "being honest" means.

Comrade,

Democrats obviously attempted to tackle the problem. That's how we got the ACA. Which was not the original plan. It was a republican plan. The only plan that they could get republicans to agree to.

It's looks like that's all we'll ever get from republicans now regarding the ever increasing health care costs in America.

And republicans have been whining about the ACA ever since.

Thanks for playing Comrade.

#33 | Posted by donnerboy at 2025-10-04 03:35 PM | Reply

reason for Skyrocketing is Trump is removing the TEMPORARY extra funds allotted for a few years due to COVID which has been over for years. fact is the cost of obamacare/ACA was already on the rise before COVID as it was never a cost savings.

I am personally aware concerning the ACA. One of my wife's, store managers [family of four] two years ago wats unhappy with the cost of the company's health plan, so decided to look into changing to the ACA - turns out he ended up with staying with the company plan because it was cheaper!

FYI - GOOGLE AI Overview:

"During the COVID-19 pandemic, the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) of 2021 temporarily enhanced financial assistance for health insurance plans purchased through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplace. These expanded subsidies, known as "Biden COVID Credits," were later extended by the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) of 2022 and are scheduled to expire at the end of 2025."

See - already extended and scheduled to expire - and that is not Trumps doing.

What happened is the tax credits hid/fed the spiraling healthcare costs, to the point that NOW removing the credits causes huge disruptions.

The ACA?

Not for a lack of trying!!

More than 50 House votes (2011"2017): When Republicans gained control of the House of Representatives in 2011, they began passing legislation to repeal or alter the ACA.

The American Health Care Act (2017): The most serious legislative challenge to the ACA came in 2017, after Republicans won a unified government under President Donald Trump.

The Graham-Cassidy bill (2017): Following the failure of the AHCA, a final legislative attempt was made with a bill proposed by Senators Lindsey Graham and Bill Cassidy. This measure aimed to replace the ACA's insurance subsidies with block grants to states but did not garner enough support and was never brought to a vote.

Individual mandate penalty (2017): While the 2017 legislative repeal failed, Republicans used the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act to effectively repeal the ACA's individual mandate by reducing the penalty for not having health insurance to $0.

Texas v. California (2018"2021): After Congress eliminated the individual mandate penalty, several Republican-led states filed a lawsuit arguing the entire ACA was unconstitutional. The Supreme Court rejected this challenge in 2021, ruling the plaintiffs did not have legal standing.

Thank you Comrade for the opportunity to teach you about the recent history of republicans trying to undermine and or repeal and NOT replace Obamacare.

I pay $8.4K per year for my family of four through Cigna Global. That covers 100% of medical coverage and prescriptions. It also covers 75% of dental. It also has some sort of long-term non-work insurance, plus evac insurance. I am quite happy with it.

I'm sure that doctors do have a degree, I just don't know if it's the 12ish year process to get into practicing, like it is in the US.

That's not true. US military retirees are not allowed to use the BX or commissary at overseas locations. I can do it because I'm a contractor, and it's written into my contract.

I found out the hard way when I went to the commissary a few days after I retired and tried to buy some groceries.
