The City of San Francisco is providing free beer and vodka shots to homeless alcoholics at taxpayer expense under a little-known pilot program. The "Managed Alcohol Program" operated by San Francisco's Department of Public Health serves regimented doses of alcohol to voluntary participants with alcohol addiction in an effort to keep the homeless off the streets and relieve the city's emergency services. Experts say the program can save or extend lives, but critics wonder if the government would be better off funding treatment and sobriety programs instead. "By prescribing limited quantities of alcohol, the model aims to prevent potentially life-threatening effects of alcohol withdrawal, such as seizures and injuries."

The San Francisco managed alcohol program, or MAP, was established during the COVID-19 pandemic to prevent vulnerable homeless people who were placed in isolation in hotel rooms from suffering from alcohol withdrawal. But the program, which started with 10 beds, has since been expanded into a 20-bed program that operates out of a former hotel in Tenderloin with a $5 million annual budget, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

They can do better than that.

Weed.

I mean...it's medicinal and should be covered by Medicaid.

Some people like to bring up religion when it comes to hand outs.

Would people catagorize this as something Jesus would approve?

It is covered by Medicaid.

But I wouldn't expect you to agree that alcoholics should get alcohol, instead of dying from withdrawal.

Go read your Bible and then forget everything it says.

Jesus' first miracle was making water out of wine. I am certain there were alcoholics at the wedding.

So, jeebus has a problem with buying folks a drink.

Yeah, you can keep your religion. To yourself, preferably.

Lamp,

Yes...Jesus first recorded miracle is turning water into wine.

And good quality too it was recorded.

I believe Jesus approved of drinking in moderation.

The problem is the excessiveness.

Ephesians 5:18: "Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit."

However, anyone who takes the Nazirite vow or priests or rulers should abstain totally to remain clear headed.

The problem is SF will lead these people to drunkenness. Its not just the alcohol.

It's the drunkenness.

Anybody know what this Deplorable is talking about?

The question is, should hospitals save people's lives, and Deolotables say No.

#14 | Posted by snoofy at 2024-05-12 07:27 PM | Reply

Just go reiterate:

Hospitals keep alcoholic beverages on hand, so drunks don't die from the DTs.

But Deplorables think it would be better if drunks died from the DTs.

Our tax dollars subsidize cults directly and their indoctrination houses via private school vouchers

This is just like abortion. Republicans don't care about other people unless they're helping to kill them or make their lives worse

Vodka is just abusive.

Tequilla on the other hand....

@#18

I agree. Vodka? Yuk. If I was on the committee, I would've suggested Bourbon.
