World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler was detained by Louisville Metro Police on Friday morning while trying to drive into the entrance of Valhalla Golf Club, the site of this week's PGA Championship. According to ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington, who witnessed the incident, Scheffler was trying to drive around a crash scene on a median.

A police officer instructed Scheffler to stop, but Scheffler continued to drive about 10 to 20 yards toward the entrance.

At one point, an officer attached himself to the side of Scheffler's car. Scheffler stopped his car as he turned into the entrance of Valhalla Golf Club.

After about 20 to 30 seconds, Scheffler rolled down his window to talk to the officer. The officer grabbed Scheffler's arm to pull him out of the vehicle, according to Darlington. The officer reached inside the vehicle to open the door, and once Scheffler was pulled out, he was pushed against the car and placed in handcuffs.

Darlington was standing at the entrance when Scheffler was detained. Darlington said Scheffler turned to him and asked, "Can you help?"

According to Darlington, an officer instructed him to back away. "You need to get out of the way," the officer told Darlington. "Right now, he's going to jail, and there's nothing you can do about it."

Well, it appears that mild-mannered Scottie Scheffler just found out how it feels to be treated as though he was DWB even though he's a pale multimillionaire and one of the most famous professional golfers on the planet.

The part I'm failing to understand is how Scheffler is charged with 2nd degree assault of a police officer when it was the officer who decided to "attach" himself to Scheffler's moving car. Unless Scheffler was going to endanger others in his attempt to circumvent the accident scene, I don't see how any of this was warranted nor useful in the overall scheme of things. Police judgment is often out of control, and this appears to be another example of an unwarranted escalation solely due to an officer's lack of reasonable perspective. To my knowledge, event-provided courtesy cars are readily identifiable by stickers, plates, and uniformity of make and model.

The video makes the police look quite unhinged and overreactive due to this being a freaking golf tournament, not an appearance by a President or politician.

Scheffler's attorney has released a statement that I'll paraphrase since it isn't in writing. He claims that Scottie was following the protocols for entry that the players had been given and that he flashed his credentials as he was supposed to. Scheffler had no knowledge of the accident when he proceeded, and that the officer who interacted and arrested him was not one of the officers hired for tournament security and wasn't familiar with the instructions given the golfers as to how they were to enter the course.

Currently, Scheffler has been processed, released from jail, and has been returned to the course and is warming up for today's round moved back 2 hours due to the accident.

Scheffler's attorney, Steven Romines told ESPN that the golfer attempted to enter Valhalla Golf Club as he had been instructed to earlier, unaware there had been a fatal wreck just up the road.

"He was going into Valhalla to work out," Romines said. "He was getting ready for his tee time. They were directing traffic. He held his credential out and was going in like they'd been instructed to. Apparently, there had been a traffic accident, maybe even a fatality, down the road, and that had changed the traffic patterns, and he was unaware of that."

Romines, speaking outside the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections, said the officer who attempted to stop Scheffler wasn't part of the regular event traffic detail at Valhalla Golf Club, "so that's where the miscommunication arose."

"They are allowed to go through, that's why they have the credential and the wave-through," Romines said. "He was unaware there had been a wreck, and he proceeded like they'd been instructed to. He did exactly as he was instructed to enter the premises."

Romines said Scheffler would cooperate fully with police, and "we'll deal with it as it progresses."

Maybe with the pigs going out of control on the rich and white we'll see some movement toward fixing them.

The pigs are running wild with impunity. They need to be stopped.

Not a chance.

So long as they mostly oppress the poor, a little collateral damage is fine. In fact I expect this officer will be getting an award for bravery soon, and a promotion. He placed his life on the line, don't you see.

The same police department that shoot and killed Breonna Taylor.

Det. Gillis? A Detective?
Dumbass, huge ego, and testosterone filled moron.
Attaches himself to a car thinking what? "I'm going to stop two tons of mass with my Police Detective Body!"

Too many really stupid egotistical police out there making it even harder for decent ones to just do their job.

He was arrested, released and will make his tee time is about the whitest thing I've ever heard." Mark Blutman (@BlutmanMark) May 17, 2024

The comments from embarrassed whites are hilarious. They're sad the PGA may take their business elsewhere, all because they treated one special white man like he was nobody special.

Like he didn't have privilege.

Sounds like the cop overreacted. BUT THAT NEVER HAPPENS.
