The pic for the article is kinda funny.
Spoiled girl/young lady appears to have everything she needs and more lying about her room, is FINALLY cutting back...
What? Only a dozen pairs of shoes in the closet?!
Lol.

The US will crumble - China too...

Nothing lasts forever...
The rich will flee first to Europe and Canada. Europe will have them, but if America falls, half of Europe will too, as their money is tied to the dollar and worth much less in many cases.
China and Russia are swirling around the toilet bowl economically, and Russia militarily.
Gold will boom, which seems to bode well for China, but then again half of what China markets as 'gold' is gold plated lead, and near worthless. The U.S. has the most gold in the world, and by far the largest deficit.
America could work on the deficit, but that would mean taxing the rich, and that will never happen under the GQP...
Lots of problems, few answers. Except to just right off all of the world debt and start over. And that would piss off all of the world's banks.

#1 Are we looking at the same article? I see a recent college grad, wearing a t-shirt and sweats, very little makeup or jewelry, standing in front of cheap IKEA furniture full of normal, non-extravagant stuff, like books and craft supplies.
From that you get "spoiled, has everything she needs and more lying about her room" and then something about a dozen shoes, but there are no shoes in the pics.
Is it the cat that's got you triggered, or the fresh flowers?

For starters, the picture in the sub-summary is not the pic of the original cited article.
From that original article...
... A 35-year-old Brooklyn resident gave up buying new clothes. A 22-year old in San Diego swore off retail therapy at Target. A 26-year old in England banned carbonated drinks from her shopping list. These three women, who don't know each other, all started the year resolving to spend money only on necessary purchases, or what is popularly known as engaging in a no-buy challenge. The self-imposed rules of the challenge are simple: participants pledge to stop buying non-essential items, be they unneeded shoes, additional beauty products, or other impulse buys for a set amount of time, usually 12 months. ...

So, some people are deciding that living within their means is a good thing.
I applaud that.

Whoa, lightning here, with the accompanying thunder less than 5 seconds from the flash.

OK, the lightning is now a "flash-bang" event.
No delay for the difference between the speed of light vs the speed of sound.
Stated differently, these lightning strikes are close.

Yeah.
But when you have antennae on the rooftop (properly grounded and protected), the flash-boom lightning is not A Good Thing.
High voltage (and that is what lightning is) is not something to be trivialized...

Yeah, high voltage is not usually success-oriented.
(and I say that as a person who has a degree as an Electrical Engineering major)

I have all of that as well. It's still cool. I like it when the ground shakes. F-15s at airshows kinda do that too.

Full Stop.

Fair enough. The atmosphere shaking is good enough.

"The Ground Should Not Shake."
Where I live it's pretty normal and you need to be prepared for that.
Did you know that every year the Southern California area alone has about 10,000 earthquakes!
Annually, California typically experiences two or three quakes large enough to cause moderate damage to homes or other structures.

Yeah, I was speaking more 'bout lightning and thunder.
But to your point, there was a 4.8 earthquake in this area a month or so again.
To say the least, in an area that has become accustomed to solid ground, that shaking was jolting.
When I talked with a long-time friend in San Francisco about the quake...
He just laughed at me. Maybe more mocking than laughter. :)
So, yeah, it all depends upon what may be the norm for the area.
Thanks for the alternative perspective.

Nothing spoke volumes about how fragile our economy is than when W in the days after 9/11 summed it up with what America needs to do to beat the terrorists.... "Go shopping" was his answer.
The rich and greedy have turned this economy from the manufacturing giant it once was to an economy that pushes paper around.

#6 Yeah I applaud that too, which is why #1 seemed odd. I followed both links and didn't see any pictures that supported the "spoiled" claim
