Having lived in AZ for many years, I cheerfully recall the "Duke" Tully affair (en.wikipedia.org). Darrow Tully was a rightwing blowhard publisher of the state's two biggest newspapers, a macho boy who yammered incessantly about his service in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, wore an Air Force colonel's uniform to gatherings, and was a total fake. These righties sure do love them some uniforms.
