The final United Kingdom election polls make grim reading for Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's Conservatives. YouGov's MRP poll (more on that below) predicts Keir Starmer's Labour will win 431 seats, up 229 from 2019, with the Tories on 102, down 263 seats from the last election. These numbers would give Labour a majority of 212, the largest the party has ever enjoyed.

Make me wonder why PM Sunak called for this election?

I guess I just do not understand UK politics.

"Make me wonder why PM Sunak called for this election?"

OK. I was going to explain, but I'll let you wonder. :)

Evidently, Sunak hoped to catch Labour, the Lib Dems, and Farage's Reform off balance. At this point Sunak could produce the Man from Galilee to offer a personal endorsement for the Tories, but it wouldn't help. They've botched it, slathered themselves in hubris and many still wonder why Nemesis is licking at their toes.

Polls close at 10PM London time (5PM EDT).

Next up is the French elections, with the left pulling over 200 candidates that were in 3-way parliamentary races with 2 candidates from the left, giving the one remaining leftist candidate in the race a better chance to get the majority of the votes and win the district.

you're not alone there...

I understand the system but how they go about it can be a real mystery.

The election legally had to be done by Jan 2025. Sunak thought that there was a slight improvement in the economy and that things would not be ever better between now and Jan. 2025. Conservatives would have lost no matter which date between now and Jan 25 was chosen.
