treat them like doj employees till the job is done and in some cases afterwards.

They shouldn't ever feel threatened for doing their job right.

Two concerns...

1) I am not yet convinced that all election workers would want to carry a firearm. That seems to be so contrary to their job at hand.

2) why have we apparently come to this point in the conversation about election workers? Firearms? Why?

No, the answer to cancer isn't more cancer.

Make the penalties clear and potent. There is no reason people doing a thankless job should be targeted.

Penalties should also apply for those that disseminate personal information in an attempt to intimidate or harass the worker.
